| Adopting a female or male Hi everyone, I have a two year old male Yorkie who is not neutered. He really is the pack leader and quite the alpha dog. My boyfriend and I were thinking about adopting a little girl, but unfortunately she is pending for adoption. The shelter has a 9 weeks old male Yorkie who is neutered and is up for adoption, but we are worried that our dog might not get a long with another male. Has anyone here had any experience with bringing in another male dog to the household. Please advice. Thank you. |

| I am doing it right now but it is a different situation. I have one last puppy from a litter that my male, Ben, sired. Now that he is the last one and 14 weeks old, I am leaving him out with the other dogs. He and Ben seem to be getting along just fine. Ben is still very much in charge as the alpha dog. But the puppy is not being all submissive and intimidated either. Their favorite time of day is when Ben leads, then Candy (our Jack Russell) and then bringing up the rear, our little male puppy, speed through the house making figure eights around the living, dining, and kitchen areas. They are hilarious!

| Thank you FlDebra for your response. Yes, I think our situation might be somewhat different than yours since your dogs are father and son. My worry is that since Rusty has been the only dog in our household for over two years that he might become over protective of his space, toys, food..etc. I just want to make sure he gets along with our new addition and was wondering if sex might make a difference. Thanks again. |
