Default Does anyone else get annoyed when people don't listen?!

We all went out to dinner tonight (step-dad, mom, sister & grandma) and it was a rib & steakhouse place. I specifically tell my step-dad that I don't want him feeding Jackson the left over rib bones that he brings home for their dog. He thinks I'm just too over protective and need to let him just be a dog... and this is the funny thing - I am not really overprotective at all. I am definitely one of the more lax people on this board, you can see from my posts, and Jackson DEFINITELY gets allowed to be a dog, lol. Plus, being a bigger boy at 14lbs allows him a ton of freedom to do so many things. He's a country dog. I used to think it was fine to give a dog a rib bone but later found out how bad it was for them so I don't want to risk it! Well, when I'm not watching, what does my step-dad do... throws down two rib bones for the mutts. I'm like c'mon, dude. Ugh, it's just frustrating when someone does specifically what you asked them NOT to. He's my dog and I can set his rules! It was easy to take the bone away from Jackson 'cuz I just showed him some nice roast beef meat, lol, but still. Just thought I'd vent!

I would LOSE IT! Not only was it dangerous for Jackson to have, but totally disrespectful to ignore your request. I haven't had that problem yet with relatives or friends/family. Everyone knows better than to mess with my Missy I'm extremely protective of all my babies, both skin and fur.

You weren't being overprotective. You were being a responsible dog owner.

I'd be pissed. My MIL has done stuff like that with my boys. It infuriates me to no end. Very disrespectful ~ crap, I'm all fired up now...give me his number so I can tell him what I think.

I feel your pain. I work FT, away from my home, so the boys spend a lot of time with my mother. She thinks that this means that my rules don't need to be followed. It is great that she is home all day, but at the same time they are MY dogs and it is MY house. I can't tell you how many arguments we've had over this!

OMG I know just what you mean. My mother.... she thinks she is right and everyone else is wrong and she cannot take direction from ANYBODY. So of course whatever I tell her to do with Ella she refuses to do. And THATS why she had an accident while with my mother....

I cant even begin to imagine what she'll be like with my skin kids when I have them.

Unfortunately, there are those who disregard anything you say...so, do yourself & your furbaby a favor...keep them apart.

My father is one of "those" but...he is almost 90 and really doesn't understand anymore so, when it comes to my doggies...they are never around him.

However, my youngest son who lived with my parents while he was away at college...well his Mini-Dachshund isn't exactly a Mini anymore...poor Mimi!

Its so frustrating. I have been told that Chicken Bones are also very dangerous for a dog.

I definitely know where you are coming from there. My boyfriend over steps his boundaries all the time from taking Ranger places I don't want him to be to rough housing him. When I get mad he tells me, "Relax he is a dog, and I know what he can handle." I wanna just scream at him. I am his mom, and I know what he can handle. I was the one that did the research, not him. lol Being a first time dog owner, at that a small dog owner... i can get really overprotective, but i just want whats best for Ranger.

I feel like I could've written this. I have been doing all the research and I fill my boyfriend in on everything but he still does things his way and let's Romeo do whatever he wants and of course I get the line "relax, he's a dog". LOL ..but like you said I want the best for Romeo and I want him to be trained the right way!

The way I see it is this.
Those kinds of people aren't allowed to be around Ellie unless I'm holding her and possibly never. Most of my family and friends know that they better not cross the line. Another part of my family (who I don't go around for other reasons) would probably not be able to be around her unless I was right there.

We were having Thanksgiving dinner at our friends' house ... they put Toto up on a pedistal just like we do. They are the owners of Toto's "big bwack wab fwiend", Kena. They always respect our rules concerning Toto but Frank does everything he possibly can to try to make her like him more than she does anyone else, including us! He brought a bag out of the frige and said since this was a special Holiday, he had fresh bones cut for Kena & Toto. It was deer and he had a big one for Kena and a little one for Toto. Not wanting to scold him, I decided since Toto's tiny little teeth couldn't chip off any bone, I let him give them their treats. Kena immediately began to chomp on hers ... Toto? ... she went over sniffed it, stuck her haughty little nose in the air and walked away!! Inside I was cheering ... "that's my girl"!!!

My friend ALWAYS gives her 2 little ones all her leftovers from the restaurants. She's been very lucky they haven't ended up having pancreatitis. when she comes over here, she says is it okay if I give such and such to your dogs? I always say NO! they DON'T get people food, unless it's watermelon, carrots, you know, one of the good things. If I do give them an occasional little piece of meat, it has no seasonings on it, and that's maybe one to two times a year, if even that. They don't need people food, and they don't need the spices. I would be pissed too, it's your dog!!!
