Adding new Family member

Hi,

I currently have a 2 year old yorkie mix and I am thinking about adopting an older yorkie to add to our family. There is a 9 year old fremale yorkie available in my area and we are going to see her Saturday. She belonged to a breeder. What should I expect as far as behavior? And how will she adapt to our other yorkie?

I would only be guessing if she was a breeder in a puppy mill? It depends on her background. Some have never been out of cages...like I said, it depends on her background. What should you expect, you ask. I would suggest possibly reading the statements on the rescues on united yorkie rescue and petfinder.com. That should tell you a lot. Do you know her background? Was she a rescue from a puppy mill or surrendered by one? If so, she's had a terribly pathetic life and deserves to be loved.

The breeder that had her (can't say how I found out where she came from) keeps them in a cage but lets them out to run 3 times a day. Everyone that I have spoken with about this breeder says that she takes ok care of her dogs. I just really want this little girl to have a home with lots of love. And we have that for her, just don't want my other yorkie mix to be really upset and think that we don't love him.

I think you're a wonderful person for doing that. In fact, you're an angel. Your yorkie will still feel loved if you give him extra special time with just him and reassure him frequently. He's bound to feel like a jealous child when you bring home a new baby.

She won't be housebroken, you know. I don't know what the possibilities would be of housebreaking a nine year old, either. I would love to do it if I was retired. I always thought I would at that time. The older girls are sooooo sweet. I think it could work out. Have you met her - the yorkie, I mean.

Thank you all so much!!!! We went to visit with Missy on Saturday and feel in love with her. We did all the paper work and are now waiting on word. We should know something by Wednesday. She is so dirty and just wanted to be loved. My daughter wanted to take every dog there home and shut this mill down. I can understand, I wanted to do that as well. But I told her we would be making Missy life so much better. I have also told alot of my dog lover freinds about this and there are 3 that are going to try to get some of the older dogs out. I will keep you posted.

That is such good news! Make me very happy to know she will have some happiness and be loved.

Can you keep us updated about her when you get her?

Has she now been spayed by the place you are getting her from? That should be done, if it hasn't already been done, so she won't get cancer.

Thank you all so much!! I will keep you up-dated on everything! We are so excited. She will be loved so much!!!!! She already is and we don't have her yet. My daughter has already been telling our yorkie mix all about his new friend.

She has not been spayed yet but will be just as soon as we get her.

I just got the call. We got her!!! I can not wait to pick her up tonight. Thanks to all of you. My daughter is going to be so happy!!!!!!! I can't wait to tell her!!!!!! Can you tell I am so happy.
