| New Puppy Ok...I'm getting my baby on 10/2 and I'm too excited. I wanted to start getting things for him gradually, so I'm not overwhelmed when I get him. So...what things would I definitely need for his arrival? I know the basics: bowl for food and water, harness, etc... I'm so ready to get him I could scream. Thanks guys for your help!!! |

| You need to decide if you're going to crate train him. If so you'll wanna crate. Baby gates are a big must at our house. Some kinda bed, blanket, pillow. pee pads. A soft plush toy that squeaks. Something to play tug of war with old socks work for this. I bought our little guy a human play pen for him to be in while we're gone and it's been a big help and he seems to like it.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Have you decided on a name yet? Maybe you could make your baby's name tag, and get a cute collar? Other than that I think that everyone has covered it. Oh one thing might be a carseat. Conditioner too! Nail trimmers if you are going to try that at home I have paw wax to condition his feet. Jsut a few ideas! Cangrats! Good luck. Please show us pictures! |

| New Puppy Yes, I've decided on his name. It will be Payton. I figured that I would get him a collar with his name on it along with the other items that were suggested in the thread. Is there a particular brand I should get when I get his comb and brush? I've read the post about the brushes, but after reading so many I got confused. Thanks for the help!!! |

| Congratulations on the new Pup, I bet you can't wait for Peyton to be home. I like the name. Everyone pretty much has indicated the main things you will need. Regarding the brush, I think a pin brush without the little balls at the end is best cause it doesn't brake their hair. Please don't forget to post Peyton's pics when you get the little guy. We just love pics, . |

| You can get a pin brush at petco or petsmart. Look here. I heard the Chris Christensen brushes are very good. |

| Please don't use a collar on your yorkies. Buy a good harness. This will lessen the possibility of injury to your yorkie's trachea. Yorkies have a history of having weak tracheas and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Trachea damage can occur to a yorkie wearing a collar when being pulled at on a leash. A proper harness will eliminate this stress to the trachea. TRACHEA COLLAPSE There can be a weakness in the trachea and if it collapses the dog cannot breathe. Emergency surgery and inserting plastic devices or coils can be done in some cases to keep the dog alive. This can be caused by severe hacking from a cold or it can be a congenital thing. Symptoms -- A loud honking, dry cough. Gasping, unable to breath. http://www.shooterdog.com/alexfaq3.htm#COUGH
