One of my first post here, I made the same mistake, and I was so sure I read it from a good source, but couldn't remember where! :D

When does a yorkie change into the dark steel blue color coat? It's really that color?
Suzi is only 15 months. She looks more silver right now, since her puppy coat has changed. I have heard the coat can take up to 2-3 yrs to reach full color changes?
She has te tan under her muzzle , and is around 7lbs .

Ben was 2 years old before the black finally started turning that nice dark steel blue. In some pictures it still looks black but with good lighting or outside, he has the prettiest steel blue color. I love that. If yours has already changed from black to silver -- it is probably not going to turn dark steel blue. Some people call the light silver color blue -- but the standard is to be the dark steel blue. Females will sometimes continue to lighten in color the more they are bred, hormones coming in to play. My breeder showed me pictures of one of her girls that is a very pale silver -- when she was 3 years old, she still had a very dark steel blue color. But by the time she had her last litter, (I think she was 6 yrs. old) she was a very light, light, color. So it can vary a great deal on when they stop changing.

I know alot of show breeders that place show quality dogs into pet homes because they might not need that sex at that time. I myself prefer a dog in the 5 1/2 to 6 pound range and even up to 6 1/2 pounds myself!

That is so refreshing to hear. I prefer 5-6 pounds myself and would rather get one larger (7 pounds) than too small.

My yorkies are almost all in that range. I do have one that is just at 4 pounds and she's my darling but she's the one I always have to watch out for health wise and make sure she's not stepped on....while she's not fragile at all I just worry more about her than the others. I love my 5 to 6 pound yorkies LOL! While my little Krissy is my sweetheart I do prefer them bigger. I would NEVER consider breeding anything under 5 pounds! I could NEVER imagine my Krissy being pregnant she's just way too small!!!

I love my 14lb boy more than anything and prefer his size :)

I really could care less about AKC papers and registration and whatnot. I just want a dog that's healthy, a good companion with a good personality and that's what I've got.

Of course they had a lot of show champions in their lines but were sold as pets. I think you don't ever know what you are going to get when they grow up. You can look at the lines and guess but that is all it is. A guess. i think you take a chance when purchasing a dog from any kind of breeder. show or pet.

O How I agree with you. Most of these people on here just want nice pets.

Well I was not going to.. but I will...

I find a lot of people love to get in the attacking mode on YT.. some rarely.. but some always..
So So many on the yorkie forums have such teenie yorkies themselves that I find it hard to understand why they would even get involved in this kind of thread... wow so many have 3 pound yorkies.. and obviously are not all from this breeder who started this thread..
I do not know this breeder... but I cannot beleive how much she is attacked on here.. I give her kuddo's for actually staying here.. why would she want to..
I am a small hobby breeder that has done what I have done on my very own.. no mentor.. I have had lots of bad luck.. but still learning and trying so hard to do it right..yet I will not make a thread and ask questions on a site with oh so many people..
WHY!!! this thread is why.. do you ask the right thing or the wrong thing.. it is stupid or is it worth asking.. if one does not know then it is not stupid.. but yet so many are made to feel stupid.. sound like a tongue twister.. well I feel this way.. do ya or do ya not.. I opt for the NOT..
I do not feel I would want to be punished for not knowing.. do all breeders know it all when they start.. I think not.. but it is not so much the breeders that are doing the attacking.. but people who do not even no what it is all about.. to me at times.. it seems it is follow the leader..
If a person seems to admire another person on here.. and I have seen this since day one.. then they will agree no matter what..
Well for those who know me some.. know I try to help if I can.. do I get right into it on the forum.. NOPE for there is always some one who has to show they know more..so I pretty much leave those questions for those that can!!
I think it is just sad that there is always so much controvery over the same breeder.. it is like beating a dead horse..

Thank you for this information. I thought it was because Suzi was shaved down once. All her puppy coat disappeared after that. Now, it has grown back to the silver, and has some dark color to her coat> I am thinking she still is changing her coat colors. She wll be 15 months June 3 .Suzi is my first Yorkie , so it is all new to me.

Personally I don't really see anyone being attacked. How are we every going to learn if we can't share are experiences, good and bad. What is wrong with expressing our different view points on breeding, diet, health care, grooming, house training etc. I know everyone does not agree with me on some things but I don't get mad and say I am going to leave just because someone has a different opinion. I have learned many things since I came to YT and I have had my feeling hurt a few times too but I just take it with a grain of salt. Sometimes the truth does hurts. I don't agree that bitches under 5 lbs should be bred but that is just my opinion, just as those that think it is okay to do so under certain circumstances have their opinion. Personally I think discussions like this can be very educational and I appreciate all that I have read.

I don't think anyone is attacking just questioning and the breeder happens to be the one who started the thread.;)

I agree, sharing different views and experiences is how we learn. On the other hand, I don't want to hear comments that could hurt someones feelings. IMO, members can say what they want and should say what they want as long as we take the person's feelings into consideration when responding. I don't think anyone should be disrespected even if we think they deserve it....just my thoughts...

Yes they can be educational.. and I love to read and learn.. that is why I love this place.. I do not and will not breed tiny yorkies.. my new male is 5 pounds.. maravihosa is over 6 pounds and I had problems with her whelping this past winter.. so I would have personally about died had she been smaller.. for it was hard enough..
It is just that over time.. I feel that it is the same thread.. just a different date .... about the same breeder and every one disagreeing with her on her ethics.. so I ask.. what are we learning from this is all I am trying to say..
I have needed help.. but mostly I send a message to a breeder and ask.. I have never been turned down yet..I have met some wonderful people on this forum..and some excellent breeders with great info.. anne
