| Dog park scare Last night, my boyfriend and I got Layla all prettied up with a pink bow in her hair and took her out to the dog park. It was a beautiful day, and Layla was so happy to be out there! All the dogs are always so friendly, and she has been doing so good with them (if anyone remembers, I ended up taking her to puppy classes for socialization a year ago when she was over two years old because she was terrified of all other dogs). She will walk up to every other dog with her tail wagging, and then let them sniff her When she's done, she'll run back to me all excited, as if she wants to tell me about the new friend she just made Well, we were on our second lap around the park and this beautiful husky was walking beside his owners who were pushing their small kid in a stroller. Layla greeted him with her tail wagging, and he did the same and they sniffed at each other. Then he came over to Scott and I and we petted him... he was such a beautiful dog! As they walked away, Layla was interested in another small dog coming up behind us so we stayed in the same spot. Not even 30 seconds later we heard growls and people yelling. There was a doberman and that same husky on their back legs, pushing on each other and trying to bite each others necks. I scooped up Layla right away! They were going at it for probably 5 minutes, with the doberman's owner, a younger woman who was probably no more than 110 lbs, with her arms around his waist trying to pull him off. Finally the man who owned the husky shoved his weight against both and pushed them against the fence to break them up. The woman held her doberman on the ground on his back, while the husky walked away with his family. As the mother and baby and husky were walking away, the man came back and said to the woman "Aren't you going to apologize?" and she said "What? ME apologize?" and he said "Yeah, didn't your dog start it?" and her friends (there were a large group of people all there with their big dogs) said "No way, that was your dog that started it"... As soon as we got back to the entrance we left. The other woman with the little dog behind us said she had never seen anything like that at the park before, and neither had I. It makes me a little scared to go back again. I really have to hesitate to say it was that husky who a few seconds before was being so gentle with Layla. We did see the doberman and that group of dogs continue to walk around as we were leaving. If that were my dog in that state of mind, I would have taken it out of the park immediately.

| Sometimes that does happen. The battle for dominance is constantly happening, but sometimes it leads to fights. I take Couver all the time to the dog park. People even call him the king of the dog park I think that as long as you keep an eye on your dog, and are within a short distance of them, they usually are ok. The big dogs usually take it out on eachother, not the little ones. Just be careful... things happen quickly!
