I felt like a complete idiot when I found out they cut the babies tails off. I honestly didn't realize that and had I known, I would have asked the breeder NOT to cut Curly's off. I would have loved it and I'm sure she would have also.

Hope no one thinks of buying those poor puppies at all. Buying one would contribute to breeding what only vaguely resembles a yorkie in poor conditions, poor feeding, with people who are willing to dock at 10 weeks. When I saw the picture, I knew before going back to look, that it was going to be an ACA registration. First I thought of the Amish puppymills so prevalent in PA but it looks like the porch of a trailer, so probably someone who bought a couple of puppy mill dogs.

I would be for voting down docking in the US, but we would have to get YTCA and AKC on board with that. I thought it was a matter of safety and hygenic reasons, not vanity. I think they look a lot prettier with their tail. But I would hate to have more tail stuck out there to get caught in doors and covered in poop when they get it on themselves. I have to clean butts enough as it is, but that is what baby wipes are for. Sometimes I think Ben must just accidently sit on it after he does it. YUCK! Not his best feature.

I don't think there is any real evidence to suggest that undocked dogs are more susceptible to tail injuries...maybe in working dogs...but toy breeds kept as companions i see no need for it...and as for hygeine..if Pixie has ever got messy around her back end it never ends up on her tail...usually on the hair down her back legs. So it really is all about Vanity...people say they prefer the docked look..that they love that little nub, that it looks neater, cuter etc, and because yorkies are still being shown docked, people want their dogs to look just like the show dogs...until they are being shown with a full tail, it will never become the norm and accepted...I find it very sad when people post asking for pictures of Yorkies with a full tail because they have never seen one...so very sad.

You may be right but I do think they look better with the tail -- at least if yours is a normal representative. Yours is gorgeous! I like to keep the hair on Ben's tail long so it plumes a little but it doesn't as nicely as yours since he is docked. I did dock the puppies tails as that is what is expected here and some may want to show them. It is part of the AKC standard to be docked. It reminded me of male baby circumcision -- I was hesitant to do that too but my husband was firm about it being done. I think we do things for so long without there really being a concrete need and maybe it is time to change things. But until the AKC standard is changed, I don't think the practice will change here.
