Someone told me my baby is not a Yorkie! 1 Attachment(s) I was walking JoJo when I ran into a lady who was walking her 2 Yorkies. We stopped to ooh and ahh over our dogs. I said something along the lines of "it's nice to meet another Yorkie owner." She then told me I must be mistaken because my boy is not a Yorkie. What?? She said first his ears are right on top of his head and they're supposed to be off to the side. Then she said his legs and body are too long and his snout is too long also. Now I realize he's got a long body with long legs, but he's still only 6.5 pounds! But hers were tiny with the babydoll faces, and while he doesn't look like that, I can't believe he's not a Yorkie! Anyway, she told me he's a Silky Terrier. When I got home I googled the Silky, and he doesn't look like that to me! It makes me sad that someone would doubt his "Yorkieness"! :( Here's a pic of him...what do you guys think? (sorry about the quality...it's off my phone because my camera broke.) |
He is a very cute, cute YORKIE!!! :D |
He is deff a yorkie :) |
Your baby is adorable....he looks like a yorkie to me =) |
Yorkie If he's not a Yorkie......then I'm not a Yorkie Talk Fanatic!!!! |
He looks like a cute little yorkie to me |
Your boy is definitely a yorkie. That lady just was not familiar with the yorkie standard. I have seen many well bred yorkies with bigger ears and longer noses. Yorkies are not suppose to have a baby doll face and short legs. Just don't let it bother you. |
I think if this happens again.. you need to tell whom ever that they need to go and do some research on yorkies... for he sure looks yorkie to me... anne |
Some people just try and deflate others to help their egos. Of course he is a Yorkie! He is adorable.. Only a yorkie could have a face as sweet as that :p |
I think your baby is so cute. And all yorkie! I love his ears :) |
Wow he looks alot like my little YORKIE boy, ears and all. Seems you meet all kinds out there. |
That lady must have fell and bumped her head. Your pup looks nothing like a silky. Very much a cute yorkie. It annoys me so much when people say things like that. I have heard it so many time about my dog. Oh she's awfully big for a yorkie. Is she a silky? What kind of dog is that, blah blah blah... |
Thanks everyone! Now, I'd love him regardless of what he is. I guess what really got me upset is that she made me feel like he's not good enough or something. He's my baby, and the way she was talking about him made me wanna cry. He may not fit the "perfect" Yorkie standards, but he's perfect to me! :luv: |
No expert but "His Yorkiness" sure looks Yorkie to me! |
Of course he's a Yorkie. After you've been around as long as I have, you'll come to realize everyone thinks they're an expert on breeds, conformation, training and absolutely everydarnthing to do with dogs. Not. :D |

A man did that to me a few weeks ago. He had a teacup and tried to tell me my 9 pound baby couldn't possibly be a yorkie. It was far too big....... I guess I've been spending too much time here cause I'm suddenly really outspoken in defense of my furbaby! "Really? What is the breed standard? You aren't sure? Well it's 7 pounds. What? Why yes. And are you aware there is no true catagory for a 'teacup'? That's right. If you look up breeding standards on the internet it'll probably tell you that it's a made up classification probably by people who are breeding underweight dogs for 'cuteness' and profit and not to advance the breed. I don't mean to offend. I did a great deal of research before I got my Amelia. I was concerned that anything under a certain weight would be financially a hardship what with the increased chance of illness what with the size and all............ But yours is just precious!" :) I usually save my sarcasm for family but no one disses the baby! Yours definatly looks like a Yorkie. Don't let the snobs make you doubt. |
JoJo is definitely a YORKIE. :D |

Looks Yorkie to me! I had someone tell me my Ginger is not a Yorkie once too. She said she's too big to be a Yorkie and that she is really a Silky. Of course I thought and still think she was full of crap. My Yorkie is 10 lbs, so what! |
Ginger is 10 lbs. I checked with a Yorkie site and asked someone very knowledgeable about Yorkies and was told Ginger IS a Yorkie and that they have seen Yorkies as big as 20 lbs. They said not all Yorkies are small. I have seen a lot of other people with larger Yorkies since then. I guess some people think the only true Yorkie is a small Yorkie. I think they need to do more research about the breed before dissing someone's baby! |
Yorkie!!!!!! And he is a cutie!!! |
I a breeder he is Yorkie. She is just one of those people that like the small and babydoll face. Tell to go to akc and read up her breed. |

i think milu has a baby doll face. people tell me she looks like a baby or some say she looks like a teddy bear. :animal36 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=22696 she has long legs though. for her body size. |

and just so you know. i have never seen a silky in person, but i would imagine that they look very similar to yorkies. so it's not that bad if people confuse them. i also had asked someone before if their yorkie was a silky, only because it was not like the yorkies i have seen before. that yorkie had a longer snout. so i thought maybe it was not a yorkie. but i wasn't trying to be mean, and i hope that lady was not offended that i asked her that...i wish more people would post pix of silkies so we can see the difference between silky and yorkie. |
I think what BJH was trying to say is that the babydoll look doesn't define a Yorkie, as they come in all shapes and sizes! But Milu is a cutie pie!! |
Yorkies come in all different shapes and sizes! I wouldn't have stood there long enough to listen to her explanation of why my dog wasn't a yorkie!!!! FORGET her!!!!! Bailey has long legs and a long body too. God help anyone that tries to tell me that he's not a Yorkie! Your baby looks all Yorkie to me :) I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but people like this woman make me so angry. |
He is an adorable YORKIE!! |
Funny response... Very good response....funny! Quote:

so is baby doll face a wrong description for yorkies? like 'teacup' is wrong? i am a bit confused? i have seen breeders describe their yorkies as baby doll face, compact body. is that right? or just marketing? like 'teacup' size description? |
