Cute... He is so cute!!! He looks good to me....you should see my Ksena....really, go look, it will make you feel better :) UOTE=YorkieLove77;2633748]I was walking JoJo when I ran into a lady who was walking her 2 Yorkies. We stopped to ooh and ahh over our dogs. I said something along the lines of "it's nice to meet another Yorkie owner." She then told me I must be mistaken because my boy is not a Yorkie. What?? She said first his ears are right on top of his head and they're supposed to be off to the side. Then she said his legs and body are too long and his snout is too long also. Now I realize he's got a long body with long legs, but he's still only 6.5 pounds! But hers were tiny with the babydoll faces, and while he doesn't look like that, I can't believe he's not a Yorkie! Anyway, she told me he's a Silky Terrier. When I got home I googled the Silky, and he doesn't look like that to me! It makes me sad that someone would doubt his "Yorkieness"! :( Here's a pic of him...what do you guys think? (sorry about the quality...it's off my phone because my camera broke.)[/QUOTE] |
about yorkies I have got that same thing to is she a yorkie or a Silky, I say she better be a yorkie, I paid enough money for her, saw her parent;s, definetly Yorkie, people think if they dont have that short snout, there Silky. To tell you the truth, I have a perfect healthy Yorkie. |

i do think that a lot of people are just really misinformed. people always insist that milu IS a TEACUP, not a REGULAR yorkie. they cannot be convinced otherwise. so i don't know, i let them think what they want to think. because it is useless trying to tell them otherwise. (i try, but they look at me like i don't know anything) |
Your little guy sure looks all Yorkie to me, and all CUTE ADORABLE Yorkie :):) |

i was really confused, so i went to read the description for physical characteristics (American Kennel Club - Yorkshire Terrier) and the description is really vague. well, maybe it's not vague, but since i haven't seen/studied that many yorkies, i don't really know what they mean. i think it's easier for breeders or people who attend a lot of dog shows to be able to tell all the differences in their appearance. |
Why can't people just say "oh, what a cute baby" and walk away? Why must they insist on trying to educate the world when they don't have a clue what they are talking about? I hate people like this. Really don't care for your perception of what the dog is. I would have gone bananas if someone said this to me. What nerve!!! What is wrong with people?....Oh, I know they are ignorant!!! Don't waste your time thinking about this person..they are not worth it. Your baby is a yorkie and is a very cute one at that. |

Someone told me that about my Otis one time too. He isn't standard, he's 9 pounds, black, cotton coated with down ears. It's funny though, other people know he's a yorkie right away. I just love him, I don't care what he is. (but he is a yorkie). |
There are all sorts of different looks for Yorkies! Yours definately looks all yorkie to me. Maybe the callous woman who made that comment was not educated to other looks for Yorkies. All people do not look exactly alike, and all yorkies do not look exactly alike! She was way out of line to doubt you when you told her he was a Yorkie! But just chalk it up to ignorance on her part. |

My vote is that he looks like a Yorkie!:rose: |
I have been told that my Owen isn't a yorkie too, but he definitely is a purebred Yorkshire Terrier. When I brought him to the groomers, they go, "So this is a Yorkie mix?" And I was like... ummm no. Yorkie. I believe a lot of people think all yorkies have ears that stand up, but mine is just a puppy and he has floppy ears. I think it's a bit ignorant for someone to come up to either of us as if we were not educated on what kind of dog we own!! Plus, your doggie definitely looks like a yorkie!! |
I don't think anyone should take offense by other peoples' comments. I have made mistakes too. One time a lady had a silky and I thought it was a yorkie. I have seen mixes that look pure yorkie and some yorkies that look like mixes. We just have to blow off peoples comments and just love our babies for who they are. |
hes a cutie! dont let ne one tell u different........hes a yorki! |
I've had two comments so far that Jackson looks like a Silky *sigh* Oh well. I think it's just because of his size. |
ok. i had to go look up the AKC definition of silkies. from the picture they have on the site, i will have to say it DOES look like some of the yorkies on this site. American Kennel Club - Silky Terrier " The general public occasionally confuses this breed with the Yorkie, but in reality, the Silky is larger and more closely related to the Australian Terrier. " this sentence is found in the very fist paragraph on the page. so it is not that uncommon for people to get confused. |
Its pretty obvious he is a Yorkie :aimeeyork. Don't let ignorant, rude people upset you. Your baby is very cute. |
Oooooh!:D Looks 100 % Yorkie to me!! He is just way tooooo cute!!!!! Maybe she was a bit jealous cuz of his "cuteness"!:) Just pay her no mind. |
I have never heard of a Silky before until I joined this forum. I have looked at the pics now of one and have to say I actually like them. :D |

Sometimes peoples have ice between the ears . Your little one is a Yorkie . |
I LOVE JoJo expression! "Mom, that mean lady sez I'm not a yorkie. AM I a yorkie?" He is just so adorable. |
Those eyes could make anyone melt...must have melted away her knowledge of yorkie breed.;) Like many others have posted, sizes vary as do coats, muzzles, eaers. He is adorable. Love and enjoy him as he loves and enjoys being with you! |
Some people think all Yorkies should be teeny with baby doll faces. They are mistaken. The standard is 4 to 7 lbs. There are Yorkies who weigh more, and Yorkies who weigh less. Some have short ears. Some have long ears. They're still Yorkies. Your's is within the limits of the standard. |
Your baby is adorable and def. Yorkie! Something like that happened to me when we went to the dog park. A lady with a huge Yorkie, about 22 pounds, came in and when I was asked if my 4 were Yorkies she said no, they can't be, they are to small... (Mikki 5.5 lbs., Minnie 6.5 lbs., Maggie 8 lbs. and Maxie 12 lbs.) I always thought my Yorkies are on the bigger side and I told her that and that Minnie meets almost the AKC standard with her features. Then she said the AKC doesn't define the breed standards... HUH??? I just answered with my standard sentence for ignorant people: "You are absolutely right, dear!" and let her stand there with her mouth open... :D The next time somebody says something like that to me I'll tell her that she might not be human b/c humans are supposed to be nice and knowledgable... :p |
