Cesar Millan vs. Victoria Stillwell?

I think it was the end of last season or the beginning of this one and after that comment I just stopped watching her. Couldn't believe she said it and had to rewind. Was kinda condescending about it.

Do you remember anything about the dog, or the problem it was having, or the family? I want to find it.

I do remember she made a vague comment that I thought was probably a sideways jab at Cesar, but it was nothing explicitly about "that other trainer."

I haven't read all the posts on this thread... but you all are comparing apples to oranges...

Cesar is a dog Psychologist, Victoria is a dog Trainer. And I don't think it's a matter of who we like, but when you have a problem dog it's more important to find what works for that individual animal.
I try techniques from both (I know: do not use these techniques at home...). I decided to clicker train my new Yorkie rescue, Tinkerbell. (Victoria's method) I can't remember why right now, but I do remember she tried to attack me (they NEVER showed this on TV!) I was shocked, to say the least. So I immediately switched to Cesar's method and promptly put her on the floor until she became submissive, then I let her up. Needless to say, I will expect the unexpected from now on....

i definitly prefere ceaser, watching his show made me realise the mistakes i'd made with my other yorkies in a way i never did with victoria when i first saw her show over hear a few years ago. I used to be to frightened of bigger dogs harming my little ones and ended op them terrified of most other dogs, now i make sure the dogs they first meet are o.k. and just egnore any signs of fear and correct any dominance quickly without feeling guilty about it. he kind of reminds me of a female barbra woodhouse who was also a very no noncence person who believed a dog should be treated like a dog. besides victoria is a dog trainer and ceaser a phycologist.

I prefer to take some ideas from both of them...and also have used some other trainers books/dvds. I dont always like the way Cesar kind of bullies the dogs into submission. Even though it does usually work.. it bothers me! Maybe i am just too soft!

I like them both equally. If I have to pick one, than I would pick Cesar. I picked him, because he taught me about being the leader of the pack.

I have never heard of Victoria, but I love Cesar. I have recently used some of his methods to get my new yorkie to let me clean his face and brush his teeth everyday. I think Cesar has a natural animal understanding. I am going to check out who victoria is though!

I like both but i have caught myself trying Victoria's methods and they seem to work. She has a calmer approach. I don't watch enough of both of the shows though to really know..

I agree. It's been my experience that there's always more than one right way to do most anything in life. No single person has allll the answers to everything. Have never found experts in any field to agree on anything ever (medical field is a prime example). I don't understand the animosity between these trainers & Cesar. At least you don't hear his final answer to some problems is to put the dog down like some trainers when their approach don't work.

I think over the years, Cesar has softened his way of doing things a little, probably due to pressure & criticism from the public & professionals. He didn't used to do the affection & treat rewards like he does now. He wouldn't be doing his job if he were not constantly learning new things & adjusting/improving his own talents. I don't think that makes anything he's done wrong.

I've seen every issue we've ever had with dogs over the years corrected by Cesar. Most could have easily been corrected had we known. Same with Victoria. Actually there are times when I don't see much difference between the two. She uses a different vocabulary to make a lot of the same points. It just sounds/looks different.

Whether a certain method works or not is ultimately up to the dog owners. If they do not carry through what they've been taught & don't seek additional help, it's not a failure on the part of any trainer/psychologist. The fault lies with the owners. I expect respectful behavior from my yorkie as much as I did my skinkids. If I need to sound tough about the behavior (and I don't mean abusive), that's what I do. All to often sweet talking & coddling just ain't gonna get it. BTW, Roxy has never stopped loving me because I can be strict. Her spirit has never been crushed.

I like to stay open to learn from any of the pros. There's so much we can learn from all of them, even if we find that single approach on a single issue from one person doesn't work. We move on to another approach to the same issue to find the one that works. Cesar & Victoria often have to change their approach too.
