YT 500 Club Member | Do Dogs Dream? I think Meg is having nightmares! Do dogs dream? Two weeks ago, my husband (who is in the military) had to come home at 2am wearing all sorts of war gear (big helmet, bullet proof vest, and all sorts of gear). He did this every night for a week, and every SINGLE night, Meg (who had never barked before) went NUTS on the edge of the bed, barking and barking and barking. There was one or two nights last week where she started barking towards the door at 2am even though my husband was in bed with us. Then last night, she started up again. She actually ran to the front door entryway this time and kept barking and barking. I picked her up and carried her back into bed, but she just ran right back to the door again. So is she dreaming that DH is walking through the door with all his gear on? I know some dogs run in their sleep or even sleepwalk, but Meg seems very awake and alert during all of this. I should mention that I live in an apartment building and someone may have walked past the door at 2am, but I've asked a couple neighbors so far and everyone was fast asleep in bed at that time. It's a pretty quiet hallway.

| I do think dogs dream but have never heard of a dog sleepwalking. Maybe someone could shed more light on the part of you question. As far as running to the door, dogs have such good senses he may be hearing someone passing by even though they're not making any noise. My dogs either hear or smell people walking around our neighborhood and bark to let me know. Then there are times where I swear they are just barking at the wind!

YT 500 Club Member | I really, really hope Meg doesn't start barking at the wind! She's been such a quiet dog up until now and I've really gotten used to it! There is a video on YouTube of a golden retriever who sleep-runs. It's pretty hilarious. I'm trying to remember what the name of the video is... try searching "dog sleepwalking" or something.

| she may be hearing your furnace/ac or a typical house sound and it startles her....Riley does that every once in a great while....I am a Firefighter and often he does that type of thing when I'm not home. My wife says he only barks a couple times until she tells him it's ok. Then he goes back to sleep. I have seen it when I am home too though. I think it's the wind....or house noise. Good luck |
