| Hello new here - have some yorkie questions I am looking to add a yorkie to the family and have a question for all you yorkie owners. It seems a lot of members here pad train their yorkies. My question is can yorkies hold it long enough to exclusively only pee outside? I have a westie that is both pad outside trained. Her first choice is outside and will only use the pad if she has to. She can hold it about 4 hrs while awake and about 9 hrs while sleeping. How long can your yorkie hold it for? I would like them to be on the same schedule. |

| to Yorkie talk. I cannot wait to see your Yorkie when you adopt him. My Yorkie uses washable pads and goes potty outside. When my Yorkie was a puppy, he could not hold it very long. He actually went potty ten minutes after he ate or played. He can hold it now. I am not sure how long he can hold it, because he uses washable pads. I think he can hold it for probably five or six hours. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | my yorkie strictly goes to the bathroom outside since day one. She was crate trained as a puppy and potty trained outside. it was tough work and accidents happened but now she can hold it 12 hours (mommy likes to sleep on weekends sometimes ) Morgan goes outside around 8:30am before work/school until 3:30-5 when someone gets home, then she'll either ask to go out another time or wait until bedtime. i should add that my yorkie is 4.5lbs and 3 years old now.

| Ella is 11 months and 4.5 pounds. She is pad trained right now, although I'm going to work on training her to tell us when she needs to go once we're out of this apartment and have a backyard. She holds it all night (between 7 and 10 hours), and she's held it for over 6 hours during the day.

Yorkie Talker | A Long Time Our little guy, Sammie, is 8 1/2 years old. We normally let him outside every 4 - 6 hours. But on occasion when we've both been gone, he's made it 11 hours. At that point, however, it seems like he'll never stop peeing. Poor little guy, we try hard to not let it go that long. |

| Jackson is potty trained strictly outside, no pads. I started from the day I brought him home at 9 weeks old. We started outside on the patio since he didn't have all of his shots but... basically same idea. It's definitely possible! There were quite a few accidents that first month but now at 6 months old, I can't even remember the last time he had an accident. It had to be 3-4 weeks ago and if I remember correctly, it was my fault. I didn't let him out early enough. But anyways, definitely possible! I find the outdoor training better!

| My Yorkie, Diesel is outside potty trained. I skipped the pee pads! There was no way I wanted to pick up poop and change wet, stinky pads or papers in the house! I have crate trained her. So, when we are not home, I put her in her crate--just in case. But, so far, she has been able to hold it while we are gone. I follow a schedule with her, so I know when she has to go. I don't free feed her, I feed her on a schedule, so I know when she has to go. Michelle |

| My puppy will be pad trained b/c we are 3 stories up in an apartment and the vet warned against taking him outside to dog parks etc until he was fully vaccinated (in an apt. community, it's about the same as a dog park, everyone takes their pups to the same area for potty). It's only day two so we are by no means trained but I've noticed he poo's once at morning and once at night (5a and 7-8p) and he pee's all the dang time! I am curious about these washable pads, right now we are using news paper b/c I get the daily so it's always on hand, but I'd like to find a more earth friendly option so I can recycle the papers rather than toss the soiled papers out. I'm going to have to look into them! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | You might find them (washable, reusable pee pads) cheaper somewhere else but I like to buy from this company because it supports disabled people. It seems very cheap until you add the shipping. However, the packages are heavy which makes the shipping expensive. I have been very pleased with any/all products I have purchased from this company! I can't recall how I heard about them but it must have either been through a search engine or Yorkietalk. http://www.odcmerchandise.com/default.asp Last edited by TOY; 04-30-2009 at 06:48 AM. | My 2 Yorkies exclusively use the potty outside. I purchased pads to catch any accidents during the training process but it never really worked. |
