went to a petstore today i went to the petstore in my mall today (coincidentally i have been banned from there because i keep losing the owner his buissness by telling people they will get a better deal going through a breeder.....lol....... but that is another nasty story... ) there were two yorkies in there not good representations of the breed and looking a little lethargic..... (i went in there to look at a little sweater that says "playboy"... so i could see hwo it was made and then make it myself, .. ....... i would never support their store) BUT..... once again....... i pointed people in teh direction of breeders im so bad....... ive been kicked out of that store like 4 times allready..... hehe good thing the manager wasnt there.... (oh and they were selling the yorkies for like 1800!!!!!!, and they were larger puppies too nto tiny ones... anyways... just had to share.... i might have condemed a couple dogs, but i saved people major heartache at least....) My mom was insistent that the puppies were just sleepy and tired adn that there was nothing wrong with them...... but..... i have to say that they just didnt look "right" if you know what i mean ...... she was a little irritating, because, yes i know they are cute to look at but still...... you guys should have seen these TWO HUSKIES!!!!!!! they were in a cage WAY TO SMALL for them.... 24x36 (about) and if you all know how big huskies get you would be outraged too (they werent adults but they were certainly larger puppies)..... i also asked my mom what happens to the dogs that arent sold (in a conversational way...... not in any way mean) and she said "oh i dunno"........ignorance is bliss it seems...... i thought it was her who told be about puppy mills and putting teh dogs down or sellign them for testing... i guess its different now that i am not five and begging to get one..... Just had to share (i was actually mostly stoked about not getting kicked out this time aruond..... it offered a little change of pace)

Good for you for speaking your mind . My neighborhood just opened up a PetsMart. There grand opening was last Sat. I went in there and they were swamped like 200-250 people in there. I could not believe it. I went back today and 70% of their puppys were gone. It is so sad to see people support these stores (and puppy mills) . They had two yorkies and they were not the greatest looking babies (so sad) . They did not have a price on the ticket. But the ticket did say $51.00 per month. I could not tell you how many months that is for. Needless to say I did not spend a dime in the store both times I went in there. I perfer to give my money to someone else.

Good for you! You could stand outside the store and picket it (though perhaps mall security may kick you out) or just hand out cards telling people to go through a breeder or something. That's horrible they put huge dogs in tiny little cages, I can't believe there's people out there doing that. I know they sell because of the cute factor, but I'd think a book of pictures of dogs would just as easily sell dogs, in cooperation with good breeders.

Petsmart doesn't sell "new" dogs? They have an adoption program to help unwanted/uncared for dogs. We had a grand opening a few weeks ago and all the dogs were adopted out. I love Petsmart! At PETsMART, we are passionate about pets. We believe that every pet should have a loving family and healthy, happy life. For this reason, we made a conscious decision to not sell cats or dogs. Rather, we dedicate space in every store to more than 2,700 local animal welfare organizations to help homeless dogs and cats find loving homes. Here's how you can adopt a pet and save a life. http://www.petsmart.com/adoptions/index.shtml http://www.petsmart.com/adoptions/stories.shtml

I dont think I ever been to a petsmart but I have to say I am a fan of Pet food supply, they do sell small animals and fish but its always clean and I just love the young kids that work there (teenagers) They must screen them well, because they all know alot about whats goin on.

I also went to a pet shop this weekend in Newport Beach at Fashion Island. I left there feeling so s**tty. I went in just to look and they had these tiny yorkie puppies in the window. I asked to hold one and the girl starts trying to sell it to me. It was like 2 pounds and almost 5 months old, but it looked sickly. I felt so sad for it. She starts telling me all of this stuff about how it is a "teacup" and won't get any bigger. I sat there biting my tounge because I wanted to tell her to get a new job where she is not required to lie to people to sell overpriced sick puppies. These pups were 2000.00. I honestly felt like crap after going in there and hearing what she was saying to sell puppies. The sad thing is that she probably believes what she is telling people. It is probably what her boss told her. Made me very sad. Also the PetSmarts in my city just do pet adoptions. Was it called something else?

Good for you, Saving some people a lot of money and medical bills. I also went in to pet store this week there was a cute maltese in there and one small yorkie.. the yorkie did not look right at all and they definetly were not even 10 weeks old yet. The malt kept stearing at me and me at him.. then the lady said you can take him home and breed him with your malt. I was so turned of by that remark... they really don't give a hoot about the dogs. Poor puppys they look so sand,..
