| ![]() Can someone tell me exactly what hypoglycemic means? The way I am understanding is that it means low on sugar?!? However, I was just looking for a more detailed answer and info that anyone may have! Thanks Rachel mommy to Yoda and Princess Laya on the way |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | ![]() Yes, it's low sugar. There are many threads about it here - just search hypoglycemia. It is more common in young puppies and very small yorkies. Nutri-Cal is given as a supliment.

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | ![]() Was he eating? Sometmies if they play too long, and they don't eat enough it could happen. How old is he? What does he weigh?

| ![]() when cash was really little I would give him pieces of honey comb cereal when we were on long trips or playing really ruff. It worked great. |

My furkids Donating Member | ![]() Maybe he was too small to be taken away from Mom...Do you live close to the breeder? Maybe she could help you out with this...I hope all goes well for you.

1 envelope of geletin desolved in 12 oz of warm water (microwaved) 1 can of Evaporated milk 2 egg yolks well beaten 2 Tablespoons of Karo Syrup. Mix well and refrigerate until it sets. Give 1 or 2 tablespoons a couple of times a day. Hyperglycemia is brought on by stress, overhandling and letting them get enough rest and sleep, exposure to low room temperatures for a period of time or sleeping in drafts. You can also give your pup NutriDrops a bit rubbed in the gums...it works much faster than NutriCal. But, I do keep NutriCal on hand for puppies. Sometimes they just don't know when to stop playing.

| ![]() He was a mill rescue! There is no way I would ever call or speak to that lady again in my life. She is a horrible evil person who doesn't care about her pups whatsoever. The vet says that the parvo really took it out of him and is thinking that his stomach still is just not adjusted from being so sick. She had directed me to give him a fingertip of Nutri Cal every 2 hours until he would eat on his own. I was doing this even through the night so I am just not sure how he became hypoglycemic. The vet says that it wasn't my fault but I just feel horrible about it. I searched through older posts and found a lady that had a pup that had gotten over parvo and then her pup turned hypoglycemic, I am thinking that vets are just releasing them to early. They are a really great group of vets and I am forever grateful to them for saving him from the parvo I am just wondering if he was released a lil early. |

Ooopps! Nevermind ignore my post. I can't delete it but I did read on and see that your vet IS the one who recommended the every two hours Nutrical and you have been dealing with post parvo -- whole different story. I should know better than to post without getting more info!

| ![]() Awww, please don't feel bad or blame yourself. You were doing exactly as you were told to do. I tend to agree that maybe the vet released him too soon, but the vet probably thinks the same way that my vet does, that they do better at home.
