| Baby is choking My little Batman is always in trouble. He will be 16 weeks old tomorrow, about 3.5 pounds. He was eating a treat today and he holds his mouth up to chew. He started coughing and choking, after a bit he was foaming at the mouth. He keeps coughing since about 1:00 today. I have given him nutrical and I gave him water with a syringe. It seems to make him spit up little amounts of liquid and maybe a little blood. The vet said to give him a little cough syrup, that his throat is just still irritated. Of course, the later it gets, the more I am worried about going to sleep myself. He has been sleeping, but when he wakes up, he runs around coughing again like it is still stuck in his throat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

| Did you give him cough syrup as the vet suggested? As long as he's not choking or spitting up blood you can probably wait until morning. If, not try an 24 hr. emergency vet clinic in your area. I've got information on two different ones in my area; one is 40 miles away and the other 30 miles.....having those numbers really gives peace of mind. See if any of your doggie owners has any of these numbers. |

| What color was the treat ??? If it had red dye in it .. thats what you could be seeing instead of blood. I experienced this once with the stools thinking there was blood. And lo & behold it was the stupid treat. I think I would be concerned if he was pawing at his mouth, like he was in distress....

| It was a little red t-bone, I thought of the dye at first, too. I'm not sure. This morning his breathing seems labored and he is staggering some. I called an emergency clinic for their location. I am going to give him a little bit to wake up and see if he seems to be getting better. In the meantime, I'm going to get ready to go.
