| missed my furbabies- saddest thing happened on vacation though My DH and I went to Vegas sort of last minute. I was suppose to see Elton John and Billy Joel when they were in town, bought the tickets the first day they came out, was so excited to see them and I ended up in the ER that night (I had bronchitis and a migraine). My daughter was going to go with me and she took her boyfriend instead. So I totally missed the greatest concert ever. Anyway DH and I realized he was at Vegas so we decided to go up for two days just to see Elton on the Red Piano. He was great. we haven't really been away from the boys, they have stayed at our parents when we had tiled put into the home but they were 20 minutes away. We left the dogs with my adult daughters and I just worried the whole time. My girls are really good but both are in college and work so they are busy. they were all ok and the dogs did really good and the welcome home from them was wonderful! Now for the saddest thing, after the concert we walked the strip and played some slots. it was late, around 11.30 (for us leaving at 7.30am the next morning and having a 6 hr drive) but we wanted a snack and went to the food court at the hotel we were staying at. This man fell over and we believe had a heart attach and died right in front of us. I have never seen anyone receive CPR, or turn this blue. He appeared to be by himself in the food court and I couldn't get my mind off that his family didn't even know this was happening. It took them around 45 minutes of working on him on the casino floor before they took him out and it was apparent they were only doing this so a doctor could pronounce him dead at the hospital. My DH kept saying this happens every day (he is a police officer) but I don't see it every day and I was just so sad for him and his family and friends that didn't even know this was going on.

| Sorry you had to witness that. Your husband is right ,I am a police officer too, I have seen my share of deaths. It is sad for someone to be alone when they leave this world, that should never happen.

| I'm glad you posted your experience because it is hard to hold that kind of thing in. Do you think you might be interested in learning CPR? |

| You know what is ironic is I work in social service, specifically with the foster care system so I hear pretty sad stories everyday about children and their experiences in abusive homes. So it isn't like I am sheltered from these things, I think it was just seeing someone die first hand was very sad and as someone said someone should never be a lone when this happens. I previously had to be certified in CPR and First Aid but not in my current position since I manage now. I did think on the drive home I should go back and get certified. We can get it for free at work so I should take advantage of it.

| Where does your user name come from? My old neighbor used to rescue every stray in the hood and she got her hands on one giant Maine Coon. His name was Critter and I always thought that was the coolest name for a dog or cat! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Aw, I'm sorry you had to see that - it really can be difficult. As a nurse, I've seen people die (well, and saw my own Mom die too) and it's very tough to see.

I'm so happy for you that you did get to see Elton and am sorry about your trip to the ER. I would love to Elton John in concert, I saw Billy Joel about 20 years ago, seems like yesterday, lol. He was great. The weird thing about your post is yesterday at Safeway, I also had an older man collaspe in front of me in the store. He was standing in-between an employee and another customer when he just fell to the floor. On the way down he hit his poor head on all the shelving and knocked the stuff off the shelves on top of him. It was right in front of the pharmacy who called 911. Safeway had an EMT type person who also works there who was on shift and they called her to come help him. It was very sad to see this, I do not know if he lived or not I did not see them take him away. I also think he had a heart-attack with head injuries due to all the blood loss. On my way out another employee said that was the second time yesterday somebody was taken out by ambulance. She said a worker fell from a ladder working on the ceiling earlier in the morning. I'm sorry you had to see such a sad thing too, I was upset all night wondering if he was ok and thinking about his family. Hugs. | |
