| Leaving a young puppy I am getting my little yorkie girl in May. I just realized that I have a vacation planned for June 20th or so... Is this too early to leave her alone for a week? Well she wont be alone I am going to have my mom or grandmother keep her but wil this give her anxiety since its so early? Will she remember me? I can always cancel on the trip.. What are your thoughts? |

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | Im a fine one to talk lol my Tia will be a year old in July and I don't want to leave her in August! As long as your grandmother is up to it ,it should be fine but the first couple of months are the hardest because you need to establish a routine.how old is the pup going to be?

| Why don't you wait to pick her up from the breeder until after your vacation? Yorkies really should stay with their mommy and littermates until twelve weeks anyway, and it might just make things easier for you and her. You also won't have to worry so much about socialization problems and hypoglycemia if you leave her with mommy until the appropriate age. Just a thought

| I think waiting to get the puppy until after vacation is an excellent idea. I realize you want to go ahead and get the puppy but she will just be getting established in a routine at home. If that is not possible, then leaving something with your scent will be helpful. Of course, my opinion is rather biased because JoJo is 10 months old and has never been left overnight except to be neutered. It was much worse for his daddy and me than for him. Good luck with your new baby and have a good vacation. |

| If you do some more research on yorkies and other toy pups, you will see the benefits of leaving puppy with mommy for at least ten weeks but preferably twelve weeks. And don't let anyone tell you you and your puppy wont bond if you get her older, the yorkie I have that I got when he was a year is far more bonded with my than the one I got as a pup!
