| Advice in trying to adopt dog Ok I'm just coming out of college and want to get a yorkie for myself as a graduation gift to me. Now I can get the dog from a breeder or I can get it from a shelter which as you know is way cheaper. So today i went on my state humane society website to see how I can adopt a dog. On the application I saw that they ask if you have or had previous pets and did you take them to the vet and the answer to that is NO! And it's not my fault it's my parents. And i'm really not blaming them because when I asked about taking them to the vets for check ups and stuff they told me they had better things to do with their money like pay bills and its not like our dogs were sick during the times we had them. Now since this is my dog that im getting and I would take him to the vet will this ruin my chances of getting the dog. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well surely that wasnt your fault.. that would be a shame if that stops you from getting a pup. And i think your parents are wrong. Dogs just like people need checkups!!!

| Why don't you just state that you never had previous pets? Because, technically, YOU didn't, if it was your parents dogs, ya know?

| I agree with Yorkielove1 & Britster. Since your parents were the adults the pet's vet visits were their responsibility. You can truthfully say that you grew up with pets, but as an adult you chose to do the responsible thing and wait until you could afford to take care of a pet's needs and had more time to focus on it. Congratulations on completing college!! And thank you for considering rescuing a needy Yorkie!

| If you do have an animal in your home I'd take them to the vet and make sure your have everything in Order before trying to adopt. I'm buying my first Yorkie Because I was denied being able to adopt because I don't vaccinate (boosters) every year. All of my animals were vaccinated as babies and had there boosters one year later but since then I've read alot into not giving them every year so I'm going on a 2 year schedule. so I was denied. But my beautiful little girl (Kiara) is 11 days old and will be home with me soon enough. Good Luck. |
