I agree with Yorkielove1 & Britster. Since your parents were the adults the pet's vet visits were their responsibility. You can truthfully say that you grew up with pets, but as an adult you chose to do the responsible thing and wait until you could afford to take care of a pet's needs and had more time to focus on it.
