Default Yorkies are small and helpless

I can imagine how you felt. I really am concerned that even an owl or anything could attack my small Yorkie. I know of an incident where a larger dog actually unexpectedly just grabbed a little chihuahua and killed it on the spot. Be watchful of your little pets.

My husband laughs at me but I carry pepper spray whenever I take Sadie outside. In that situation I wouldn't have hesitated to use it. I used to have a toy poodle and we had a Boston that lived behind us. He broke through the fence one time and did exactly like you are talking about with our poodle. She was petrified!

I am glad Pablo is okay. Everytime I read a story like this, my heart thumps as I read it. It is very scary. I have met a Boston for a quick meetup as I do dogsitting once in a while and the dog were so mean that all he wanted to do is to attack my Yorkie and he was so focused on it that he was drooling the whole time! It wasn't the breed as the owner said he was undersocialized but he sure was strong and scary for a not too big dog. Good thing I didn't let them be together in one area straight away or it would be total disaster.

Oh Lisette I am SO SO SORRY for you and sweet Pablo!!! This is the exact reason I never take my boys to any dog parks. It only takes an instant for something tragic to happen.

I am APPALLED that no one had the decency to help you and Pablo! What heartless people!

Give him extra love and kisses from my tonight, the thought of what happened to him just breaks my heart

i'm glad pablo is ok. some people can be morons. i think this incident happens quite often, it's happened to me.

people need to learn that big dogs belong in one part of the dog park and small dogs belong in another. i also hate it when some owners don't even know their own dog's temperment. if your dog doesn't get along well with other dogs, then don't take it to the dog park and have it attack other dogs! get that dog socialized elsewhere!

After that incident you probably couldn't get him to go near the place anyway. Glad all is ok, sounds like it was pretty scarey. I have the issue with Roxie that she wants to fight back any dog messing with her. That's just not safe for her. She thinks she's as big as some of the bigger dogs. I usually just pick her up when I see other dogs approaching even if they're on a leash. That would be hard to do with more then one though.

Wow, how scarry! I'm so angry for you that no one else stepped in to help. I can understand you not wanting to take Pablo back there! Thank goodness he was not physically injured. Tons of ((((hugs)))) to you both.

Does the dog park have personal responsible for making sure the dogs that enter are members of the park? Meaning, at my local park you have to take in your current shot records in order to join the park and are given a tag to wear on your dog's collar to prove membership. Here you can report dogs that are bullies to the personel. This way it's documented and they will remove that dog's membership to the park.

However, at your park, if there was a lot of people there, then I wouldn't go back either. I wouldn't want my baby to socialize with such unhelpful and selfish people.

So sorry this happened to you two!!!!

Well, this lady came in just as I was getting ready to round them up and unleashed her Boston Terrier. I dont know if that dog sensed Pablo being a Chicken but the dog took off after my Pablo. Pablo ran so fast around and around, I was running and trying to get him and the dog was on his butt nipping and trying to bite. Lots of people standing but nobody would grab this Boston. Finally I managed to snatch up Pablo in my arms. Guys, his heart was racing and he was sooo scared. The owner grabbed her dog and said he has never acted like that before. I wanted to swear at her but I said in a mean tone "My dog could have had a heart attack and your dog does not belong with the small dogs. And with that I left all those fools. How dare her and the others sit and watch my baby hurting....How would you guys feel? Im so PO.
You don't have to say PO, you can say PISSED OFF!!! or PIST OFF lol
I feel for you. That is one reason I am afraid to take little Jemma to one. Plus I'm just phobic about her catching something there. We have some stray wild cats in the Retirement Village I live in. If my Jemma ever got out they would kill her. These cats are big. I've called Animal Control to come set up some traps to catch them. Have they yet? No. So I am calling and going to rant at them telling them these cats are now coming into my yard. And the male cat is now marking his terrority. It smells horrible. grrrrr There is a vacant house next to me for a long time. The cats are all over there and they see my baby looking at the window. Now they are coming to my yard and sitting there starring at Jemma. Talk about pissed off? I am now constantly chasing them. They will go to the bathroom in my yard and gosh knows what Jemma can get. I pray that little bugger never gets out my door. They would have her for dinner.

That poor baby, must have been more than scared, the little heart pumping like that, grrrr. Give that baby hugs for me

Oscar is our second yorkie, so over the years i've given this a lot of thought.

I know this may be unpallatable to a lot of you, but if my yorkie's on a lead and is approached by a dog in aggresive manner, the other dog is going to get kicked.

If my yorkie gets injured by an agressive dog off the lead, the other dogs owner is going to get it aswell.

I'd do anything to protect him. ANYTHING.

I absolutely HATE irresponsible dog owners.

Saying that they've never behaved like that before is no excuse.

A local farmer has just had a lamb killed by a dog off the lead and has had to put up notices asking that people keep dogs under control.

What a joke.

I don't know what it is about Bostons and Yorkies. They just don't mix!

I really feel for you because I am in the same situation. I am trying to socialize my very small, timid yorkie, and we've had a few run-ins with Bostons. I think as a breed they are very playful and don't take no for an answer.

I don't know if this will help you, but what I'm doing is taking Thor to doggy daycare. They have a lot of personnel there and they are careful about mixing dogs, so they won't pick Thor up if he gets wussy - they want him to learn to take care of himself.

HOWEVER, if we are out in the park together and he gets scared of another dog, I pick him up. I want him to know that if he gets chased he should come straight back to Mommy. My hope is that this gives him more confidence to explore.

I am so glad that you will not be going back in the future. It is sad to say that because of irresponsible people dog parks are really one place that I stay away from with mine. Not to mention the fact the stories about pups picking up diseases at the parks too! Let's not forget the dreaded Petsmart and Petco When we go to the stores I always make mine stay inside the shopping cart on a blanket. Just think about all those that pick up their new puppy from the petshop and then stop for supplies on the way home! SCARY!!!!!

*As a total side note about Petsmart~years ago when my son was little maybe 5 yrs old~we were in Petsmart and there was a Doberman with its owners and my son thought he was playing with it just as he played with my sister Dobie. The dog lunged at him! I nearly had a heartache right there in the store! The owners blamed my son but I am sorry but if you have a pet with even the slightest aggressive behavior it is your responsiblity to keep it under your control. It is not an excuse that YOUR dog attacked because of someone elses actions ie a 5 yr old thinking he was playing. Just not cool!

My Grandma (God rest her soul) used to hate hate stray cats. She didn't like them peeing on her things, she was an avid gardener and she didn't like that they killed birds so she used to scare them off by throwing hot water on them. You of course don't have to use hot water but you could try spraying them with water since they seriously don't like it. Good luck with your situation and I hope it gets resolved. I like domesticated cats and I have 2 but don't care for the strays since they carry so much disease and are very mean.

I had a similar thing happen to me but instead of a boston it was a great dane after knocking over my little girl and then knocking me over to I got up and grabbed my girls and ran out!

I don't see why dog parks can not make a small section for the smaller dogs!
