Sorry this happened, the hair will grow back. But, I have found that most groomers these days do NOT know what a puppy cut is. You just about need to take them a picture. I know down south here they think puppy cut means to shave them down.

I also took my Bella for her first grooming yesterday and I thought I was very specific on how I wanted her hair and gave her permission to cut the matted hair on her belly but when I picked her up she was shaved and she looks so pitiful and almost looks like a chihuaha instead of a yorkie ,needless to say she will never go back to that groomer again!

The 1st time I took Precious to the groomer I had a PICTURE and I said just TRIM her up exactly like she is just alittle shorter. And when I picked her up she was completely shaved!!!Even her head!!! I caused a huge screaming scene saying what did you do?! A woman comes out of the back & says oh we had to she was matted. I said like hell she was...she is brushed & combed 2x a day. Then I opened up the crate door scooped up my baby & stomped like a loony bird out of the store(without paying) no one came after me, no one called, nothing. I think because they knew they were wrong there was not 1 stinking matt on her body. I was so mad & upset & was totally in tears by the time we got home. And she did look awful!
So enough about our experience.....as upset as you are your baby's hair will grow back just like Precious' hair did. I'm sorry for you, find another groomer like us. Live and learn as they say.

It sucks when our dogs do not get the type of haircut we requested. I take a picture and explain to the groomer how I would want the haircut. Then I would ask the groomer to explain to me how she would cut the hair, so I can make sure we are on the same page before he cuts my dog's hair.

1. when people say "puppy cut" it is not really a style and means different things to different people. Some will cut short others will leave long, but there is NOT a specific length.

2. when wives send the husband with the dog, it usually doesn't go well. Because the husband "most of the time" could care less about what the dog looks like. You tell your husband one thing but it gets translated to the groomer as another thing all together. I know first hand, because I will question the husband so much they usually say "I don't know just call my wife, and she can tell you what she wants." And when I make the phone call the wife is saying something different then what the husband told me. The men just want to drop the dog off, sign the paper, and leave as quick as possible.

3. and then of course there are groomers who just don't know what they are doing and don't really care, because it is all about the money. Thats when you end up with a shaved dog. It's the style that takes the least amount of time, therefore they can do more dogs that day and that means more money.

Here are the ways things go smoother:

1. If you are not going to drop the dog off yourself: send a note, have the groomer call you, have a picture, and/or make sure the person dropping the dog off knows exactly what you want and do not want. Explain fully what you want to the groomer, saying "just cut a little bit, or just trim it up" more then likely is going to get you something you don't want. A trim to me is just shaping up the dogs hair and cutting off the scraggly hairs. A trim to someone else is cutting off 1/4 - 1/2 inch all over.

2. the most important find a good groomer, one who cares. Don't just pick one out the phone book. Word of mouth is great and you can ask here on YT or on City-Data.com Forum: Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions .
