first litter and have already lost one... I have a two and 1/2 yr old yokie she ia about 5lb very little thing. this is her second time to have puppies the first time she gave me one female and we lost her right after birth and I decided I did not want any more due to Sadie having trouble with her back legs while pregnant they would just give out on her. I was moving from Houston to Austin and sent her to my xx-husbands house to spend a week with my boys when my xx-husband male got her, she was not due till 4-4-09 but gave birth to 3girls on 3-29-09 due to being on deaths doors she started throwing up blood and it was aslo in her stools so I rushed her to my vet which is in Oklahoma on friday he told me she had a bleeding aulcer he kept her called me that night said her sugar had dropped because of the puppies and she needed to give birth to them or he would have to do a c-sec and he did not think she would live.... she gave birth in the middle of the night .... thank god it saved her life but the very next day we lost our solid grey baby girl she just could not keep her temp the other two girls are doing well and are 8days old when can I stop worrying about them dying? if I leave Sadie alone with the pups she drags them out of the bx when can I stop worrying about there temp and staying warm? due to Sadie being so sick she can not feed them so its up to me I have been feeding them 3cc every 2-3 hours is that good? |

I don't know much on any of this yet, as I haven't started breeding. I'm just glad that your little girl is still with you. I do know from a one time breeding years ago, to put a heating pad at one end of the whelping box to help them keep their temps up |
Puppies cannot control their temps for the first 2 weeks... you need to continue to feed the puppies until they are old enough to start lapping puppy mash....usually at 3 weeks very thin gruel. Was the mom spayed?? It is up to you to keep the litter alive....good luck. |

worcester, I wish you the best of luck. I don't know anything about breeding, but I hope everything improves for you. |

Be sure to keep them warm with a heating pad on low. Are they in a playpen or x-pen so the mother can be with them but not get out far enough to hide them? I've never had to hand feed but you have to be sure they aren't losing weight. Do you have a small food scale or digital scale to keep track of their weight? It sounds like the one you lost was a blue born puppy, if the father was a Yorkie too, and the blue borns are sometimes lost at birth or have a lifetime of health issues and pain. You may also want to post this thread or a new one in the breeder section...you may find more help there. Good luck... |
its good for you to come here to get help, im sorry you were bombarded with such harsh words when you need help...mabe your xhusband should have watchd better but sometimes men just dont get it:rolleyes: lol, well the pups are here now so being yelled at wont help, post in the breeder section, they can help |

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with megansmomma. This little girl should have been spayed immediately after she had the first puppy, and lost her, and her back legs were giving out during her pregnancy. She's 2 and 1/2 years old. She should have been spayed a long time ago, if the OP truly didn't intend to breed her again. Each heat she has gone through exposed her to more estrogen and increased her risk of cancer. 1st time, yes, an accident. 2nd time, pure negligence on the OP's part. And you most certainly don't leave an unspayed female with an intact male. Believe me, I know, because I am living next door to 7 Poodles, who's owners thought their male couldn't get to their female, if they kept panties on her. Perhaps, if you were involved in Rescue, as megansmomma is, you would have a different perspective. My sympathy lies with this poor little dog, and the puppies. |
ok regradless of wether or not you think the op is irresponsible or not wouldnt time and energy be better focused on trying to help the poor pups instead of blasting the other poster?i understnad megansmomma you work with a rescue and see alot of things but put it aside and worry about the puppies!maybe later you could try to help the other poster realize the horrors of over population... |
You guys are right. Let's just call her names, continue to remind her that this was a terrible mistake, and bring her down. I haven't been around YorkieTalk much lately except for occasional lurking because of this. No one has any tact and can't wait to say something that makes them sound like the better, more responsible person instead of just offering help to those who need it. |

They get all this sympathy, and it only seems to encourage more people to breed. Pets should not be bred. Maybe my age is showing, but it just seems like every time I come in here, there's been another "accidental" breeding that could have been prevented. And I just feel frustrated that this little dogs life was put at such great risk. Not to mention the puppies. I think I'll take a break from this section. I don't mean to come off as a "better" person, but it doesn't take a "better" person to be responsible, and have your female spayed, particularly after what she went through previously. I won't say another word. |
