my question to you is then.. did you go and adopt your yorkie from a shelter or did you buy it?? I dont know you, Im just asking. You and many others are so quick to jump on those who want to own mixes and start preaching that they should of gone to a shelter first but yet they are the first to sign on to YT and say how much money they just spent on their new little yorkie pup when there are sweet little yorkies in shelters everywhere everyday. Why is that?? Do I think that she should breed her 2 dogs together just to see what the pups will look like or for whatever reason... absoultely NOT. I dont condone random breeding for anyone. I am a firm beleiver in spaying and neutering and I would love to see spaying and neutering be mandated for the majority of pet owners. However that will never happen and our shelters will continue to stay full. |

I would suspect that happens because so many people jumped on the Yorkie bandwagon and started mass producing them. If that were not the case, then the number of Yorkies that you purportedly see would likely decrease. So the real question is, where are the majority of the Yorkies that land in shelters and rescue coming from? (For the record, I have been on the contact list for our local shelter for years for any Yorkie that comes into the shelter that is not either reunited with it's owner or adopted out within 10 days and as of yet, I have never had to go and pick one up. Which is GREAT!) |

Kind of off the subject, but I always find it a little disturbing when I hear comments to the tune of "...it's never any problem to sell the mixed breed dogs..." or "I breed these because I don't have a problem selling them" :thumbdown To me it suggest what the real goal is for many--concentrate on producing the dogs that will sell. It disheartening to think THAT is the determining factor, although for many, I know it is. :( |

I get my facts from the rescue section from this forum, everyday or just about everyday some one has posted about a yorkie that needs to be rescued. Thanks for you answer. Im happy to hear that you have yet to have to go pick up a rescue yorkie, lets hope it continues. ;) |
So you really don't have any numbers on this - just your personal opinion. Petfinder is a sales forum. That has nothing to do with going down to your local humane society. They don't get every dog posted on their own sites much less Petfinder. But honestly, I don't want to argue about the numbers - I have my opinion on that, too... it's about the dogs. The dogs that are being bred -- just because. It really doesn't matter to me if they are pure or mixed. Too many people are breeding that shouldn't be. Simple as that. |
