Yes, I was heartbroken much like one of my children hurt me for some reason. You can't flip a 16lb dog on it's back especially after you have already been bitten. I was in shock to think he did such a thing. Those of you with the standard size puppy have no idea just how big Buddy is. Think about trying to put a Boston Terrier on it's back. Ain't happening. A little mouth compared to a larger mouth is the difference between a scratch and a dog bite. Thank you. I'm over it now and will just be more careful not to trust my best friend again.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | ![]() Hi Carol..oh my your poor hand and Buddy must has thrown you for a loop. I read your post and did you pull up your afghan before the bite? If so do you think it was the way you pulled it up and it thought it was something else? There had to be a reason besides not getting your treat that made Buddy lunge at your hand. ![]() ![]()

I saw it in his eyes he was going to come at me, it happened in a split second. I pulled the down throw up in front of my face at the exact time he lunged. He bit threw the throw and into my hand that was holding it up on the right side. If he were playing he would not have bitten threw the throw. I have no answers except he was mad I didn't share. Maybe the anticipation of waiting for something got to him. I may have been the one that set him up for failure in not sharing. I have learned my lesson. No more in my face when I'm eating. There's a first time for everything they say and I sure don't want a second. It's the only thing that makes any sence to me. He's always so loving.

And at her Daddy, whom she adores! For example, sometimes, when I pick her up off the bed, to put her down on the floor in the morning, she will growl at me. She wants to get down and run and see Daddy, but for goodness sakes, I'm helping her to get there! She also growls when I towel her dry after a bath, before I blow dry her. She growls at her Daddy when he brings her in from outside and he needs to blot her paws dry. And believe me, she gets severely reprimanded, which only makes her growl more. She is always "sorry" later, She will come to me, with her ears down, and lean her head against my leg, and look up at me with pitiful eyes. We suspect she "forgets" herself. So you suppose, for a moment, Buddy just "forgot" himself? Sheila

| ![]() Practice tough love...I know it can be difficult...but they are animals, as much as we like to think of them as our babies. We never "share" our food with Winston...what he doesn't know he won't miss. He has his food and his treats...ours, is ours. So sorry this happened to you and Buddy...but hurt feelings can be repaired. You love him enough to care, and he knows it.

| ![]() Oh Carol...I feel so bad for you and can imagine how shocked and hurt you were from the incident. Hugs to you, dear friend! I think what you are doing, in making Buddy keep his distance when you eat, is the right thing. I remember seeing that on one of Cesar Milan's shows or his book. That shows that you are the pack leader. I'm glad your hand is healing up and that your hurt heart is mending. I guess we are reminded now and then that they are dogs. I'm sure Buddy feels pretty bad about what he did to his loving Mom.

| ![]() I am so sorry Buddy bit you. How old is Buddy? Is there any chance his vision is not as well as it use to be and might of thought that when you moved your hand you had a treat in it and he might of been grabbing for what he thought was a treat? I know I have a two sisters that get carried away went taking treats from my hand and every now and then one will accidentally bite down on my fingers....ouch. Whatever Buddy's reason was for biting you, I hope that it does not happen again. I know you have forgiven him. It is hard to stay mad at them for very long. |

| ![]() Thank's to all of you for your suggestions and sympathy. ![]() His vision is perfect. I know Buddy like the back of my hand. I have said from the first week I had him at 14wks, he is the smartest dog I have ever had. He thinks! I can see him staring at me and thinking what to do next. He knew what he was doing and he felt immediately sorry he did it. But now that I think about it, which I have done now for 4 days, I caused it by eating in front of him with him anticipating getting something. It was my fault but it really still hurts that he would do such a thing. But he is after all, a dog. I have changed my ways. Buddy is a true Alpha in every sence of the word. I have done extensive training with him over the past 5yrs loving most of it. It's only he and I in the house hold. We train everyday. He sit's for everything. I love him dearly. He knows me also. As soon as I let my barrier down he takes charge, then we have a problem. Such as this incident. He dosen't give me an inch and I shouldn't him. Those of you with little ones have no idea how challenging they can really be. I would never give him up. 98% of the time he's perfect. Well behaved and loves people & children. He has made a complete turn around and is turning into the social butterfly by giving strange dogs a change to be friends ![]() 4yrs in the making. I am so very proud of his accomplishments and mine. I don't want you to think he's bad because he's far from it. He just wants it his way, is my guess. His health is fine but he has had every behavioral problem known to a dog. We have over come all of them but the food thing still sit's beneath the surface so I will avoid everything in the future that can get him into trouble. He's smarter than a fifth grader ![]() He has given me more challenges than I ever expected but hey, what else do I have to do? I just had to talk about the incident because I was shocked and hurt after all we've been threw. I keep forgetting he's a dog. |
