I don't know anything about LP and pooping, but I do know that anesthetics, pain meds, and the surgery itself can constipate humans as well as animals. That is why they usually make you poo before you leave the hospital after any surgery ;) I'm glad the surgeon was unconcerned-I hope that little Tatum give you a turd soon :) Make sure you give her water to drink and keep her hydrated, that should help move things along. |
I am sorry, Brooke, but I had to laugh seeing how many blankies the little princess has ;). And even though she is recovering from surgery, she is still wearing a little bling. :p It sounds like you are taking good care of Tatum. |
Awww....look at that precious little baby. So glad you're home and Tatum is on her way to a complete recovery. I do have to say all those blankets are probably not the easiest thing for her to try and stand up on. Think about how hard it is even for us to try and stand on an unmade bed. I remember our orthopaedic surgeon telling us not to even put a bed in their x-pens for fear that the 1/2" it would take for them to get in and out could injure them. Just a thought. We were also sent home with a "lifter". It went under their bellys and had handles....it helped us support their weight as they tried to walk. Both Phoebi and Chan found them very uncomfortable so I started using scarves. I would put them under their bellies and support them those first few days. They were too wobbly on their own and I was afraid falling over would somehow compromise the repair. It took them both days to poop. I was told the same thing, between the anesthesia, pain medicine and the fact they weren't eating well they might be constipated. They did poop within 5 days but part of the problem was it was obviously very uncomfortable for them to get into "poop" position. Both literally pooped standing up the first few times. If you decide to try the scarf, that might make it easier for Tatum to bend a little. My thoughts and well wishes are with you Brooke, your husband and of course, Tatum. Special hugs to Stedman for being such a great big brother. I'm sure he's a big help! lol |
Thanks for the update Brooke! You really have a full time job ahead of you for the next few weeks!! Follow the doc's orders so you don't have to go through this again!! Poor baby!!! We are sending healing prayers to little Tater Bug!! :hands: If you want to use my stroller, just let me know. I'll meet you half way. That is a great way to keep her confind and you can roll her around the house with you wherever you go. I remember when i had the girls spayed and they weren't supposed to move around a lot the first day. I just put them in the stroller since i was moving around the house too much and would "forget" to carry the Sherpa with me until i heard the "mommy, you forgot me cry" ;) Little stinkers!!! Is there anyone closer to you that might have a stroller to borrow?? Maybe you could post a thread asking to borrow one for a couple of months or you might try Petsmart if you want to buy one. HUGS and KISSES Sweet Tatum!!! xoxoxoxox |
That is one comfy looking bed!! I wanna sleep there!! :p+ Glad Tatum is still doing well!! P.S. She might just be the cutest Yorkie I've ever seen. |
LOL those sure are a lot of blankets in Tater's crate. what a princess and the pea situation. i don't know if you still have that many in her crate now, but sometimes they do get caught up in them if there are a lot in there. a small bed and a blanket should be fine as long as she can get in and out without any problems. glad to hear tate is eating something. usually the little ones are a pain to feed after surgery so we are glad to get them to eat anything at all. however, chicken is constipating so try to get her to start eating dog food again sometime soon. the chicken isn't going to hurt for a few days tho, so don't worry. A scarf or another leash is helpful when getting them to walk. she may even like the extra support when trying to poop. she probably doesn't feel comfortable getting into the pooping position so some like a little help. It really does sound like you are doing a great job. Your surgeon sounds excellent too! i LOVE his discharge instructions! he isn't old school about it and totally knows what he is doing. great to hear it. i love that he told you to do the 3 walks a day and passive range of motion exercises. so many lp stories i read here don't allow this and have the dog in casts and that's really not the way to go now a days. Tatum is going to do great. she'll be walking better in no time and you will have a happier (and even more spoiled) girl on your hands. we all know you spoiled tate before and boy is she gonna have you wrapped after this ordeal. hahahaha |
She looks so good! I can't believe all of those blankets, holy moly! I wouldn't worry about the poop, it will come. You are being such a good Mommy taking care of sweet little Tatum so well. :) |
Glad to hear Tatum is doing well, I will keep her in my prayers that she continues to get better each day. You are such a good mommy taking great care of her. |
Awww, Brooke, you must be exhausted just worrying about that little sweetie, let alone taking such good care of her. But, gosh, I'd go thru surgery if it meant I could sleep in such a comfy looking bed. As for pooping, the only thing I can offer is since she must have been completely emptied for the surgery, she's got more room than usual in there so it'll take longer to pass all the way thru. And I agree with the comfort part - it must hurt like heck for her to get into that position. I'm sure she'll be fine. She's so lucky to have you for her Mommy. Hugs!! |
Ok guys....I was waiting for someone to say something about the blankets, LOL  Actually, they do not go up near as high as the picture makes them look, I promise ;) I know by looking at the picture it looks like she is laying on a mattress of blankets lol...but they really do not all sit up that high at all - the picture just makes it look that way. Her surgeon actually saw the way I had her little "house" set up - blankets and all, and he ok'd it and said that it was just fine ;) But I do thank you all so much for your care and concern about her...that is just so sweet  He actually told me that I could even put a bed in there for her, but I myself thought that a bed being in there as well as the blankets WOULD be too much. Not to mention, a bed does sit up higher...so I think there could end up being an issue with that. As far as her walking in there goes, well....she doesn't, lol. The only thing she does in her little house is sleep, eat (I hand feed her in there) and drink her water. She does not get up and walk around in there at all. Any time she comes out of the house, we physically pick her up and take her out...she does not walk out on her own. If she has to go potty, she whines and we let her outside....on a leash AT ALL TIMES. She cannot be out of her house without being a leash - EVER. Even if we are sitting on the couch holding her in our laps, she must be leashed, just incase she would fall....that way we can immediately pull the leash and get her before she would hit anything. Her surgeon is absolutely wonderful and gave me very specific instructions as to what to do and what not to do, and we have been following them to a T :) I think that if we keep doing things the way we have been doing them, *hopefully* everything will be just fine. We are kind of in a "routine" now. I am keeping my fingers crossed and am praying as well. Oh and thank you to the poster that told me about the scarf tip  Her surgeon did say that she would probably have a hard time getting in the position to poop (I figured this as it took her a little while to figure out how to stand/squat to pee) - but he never mentioned anything about putting anything under her stomach to try and support her....but I will definitely ask him about this :) Thanks again everyone and big hugs to you all...YT'ers are the best! :ghug: |

To get her back on track with kibble start to mix the chicken into her kibble a little more with each meal. To make is a little more appealing mix a little gravy and warm water onto it. The water will also add to her fluid intake and help with the pooping. You can also sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on top. This is how I got Truman to eat when I first brought him home. Otherwise you are going to have such a spoiled baby she will never want to go back. You are taking great care of your little princess. You are such a good mommy to both your babies. :) |
Have been watching Tatums recovery on here and am so happy to hear of her good progress. She is such a beautiful little girl and it is so obvious she has a wonderful mama. Good job tatum and Brooke:rolleyes: |
Sooooooooooo happy to see Tatum is home and starting recovery from her surgery!!! Brooke, kissies and huggles to little Tator!!! I am sure the poopies will start pretty soon. Kalina made a good point about using a scarf or support for her widdle body as she might be uncomfortable trying to get into the poopie position {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Tatum}}}}}}}}}}} |

YAY for POOP! Houston..........WE HAVE A POOP! :D :bravo: I can't believe it, she finally POOPED! Yippeeeee!! :cheer: I was in there cooking and hubby took Tat outside to go potty....us figuring that she was just going to pee again and that was it. So, after a few minutes had passed I walked outside and there is hubby standing at the door with Tate in his arms and he said, "SHE POOPED!!!" - lol! I was like, "OMG! I MISSED IT!" and then he reminded me that I was nuts and that it was just a poop and that we didn't just win the lottery. But, that didn't stop me from taking the flashlight outside and putting a spotlight on the poop so that I could see it with my own two eyes :D And low and behold, there it was....her little poop! :D Right in the GRASS! I know I sound like a total nutjob, but this just MADE MY NIGHT :D I felt the same way tonight that I did back when Sted was constipated and he finally did his "business." And now little miss THANG thinks that she is a big shot cause she finally pooped and she is in her little house just growling away wanting to come out LOL. What a little STINK!! She has really perked up. Geez....now it may even be harder that she HAS perked up...cause she does NOT want to stay in that house! She thinks that she is back to normal and wants to come out and join the rest of us  My goodness....it's amazing how one little poop can bring us so much happiness in this house :D Yay for poop. |
