If you do decide to take the Yorkie, see if you can get an agreement to have the pet store pay all vet bills associated with the pup's present condition, i.e. hypoglycemia and perhaps coccidiosis, which would account for blood in the stool. Whatever you do, get it in writing. If possible, I would wait until they got another, healthier puppy for you. Yorkies are wonderful but the heartbreak at losing one is just awful.

I agree with everyone else.. I would not buy that puppy from the store. Seems to me that that puppy has more than one problem.. That blood in the stool is not normal and hypoglciema is not easy either.. If you are having trouble getting the money back go for a mixed breed as evryone else said. If not I wuold go straight to a reputable breeder. Good lUck!! -Alexandra and Tikki

YorkieRose, you sound pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the tiny yorkies. And I would love to discuss some questions that I have further with you about them. My Yorkie, the one I am adopting is 6pounds. He is small, but not so small that I have to worry about liver shunts or multiple shunts or epilepsy, etc. I don't know all the health concerns attached to the very small ones, since things like luxating patellas and collapsed trachea come in the different sizes as far as the breed goes. I would like to know if you breed any that have the potential for showing? Maybe not on a big scale, but say local and maybe state levels? How do you determine other than by DNA and of course knowing the parentage of the pups whether they will be show quality or not when they are just little furbabies? Is it more like an educated guess? When thinking about getting into showing maybe a couple females, is it allowed for them to be spayed? and still show in the ring? or are there rules about that? With AKC I mean. Another question, I very very rarely see the blue yorkies. Why is that? The one I have for example I just think he is beautiful, but he is definately not a black and tan. He is blond and silver. Have you ever heard of such a color combo? Myy vet said he is just gorgeous, and I think so too. But I dont think he is actually the norm? am I correct in thinking this? Do you have a web page? Do you still breed? I assume you do from your posts, but would like to ask, and feel free to PM me if you would rather. Do you ever sell your litters with full registration? giving the guardians of your baby the breeding rights and the showing rights? It's nice to meet someone who seems to have a pretty good head on their shoulders and your advice here in the forum is usually impeccable which is why I am asking you these questions. Another question. Do you do your own docking and dew claws? Is there any info on the internet that shows this in any detail with pictures, or shockwave video?? where you can actually see it being performed? I found a site that has shockwave video for the anal glands, since I just got a rescue in that had full anal glands, and the site it so good that it was actually not a problem at all to express them just by watching and reading the webpage. It was pretty interesting, and to tell you the truth, I had no idea about these glands before I met scooter!! His were so obvioius though and I could tell by the way he was walking semi bowlegged that he was suffering with them. So I just googled it and found this great site, not that it is a great thing to have to deal with by any means, but nice when a site is that specific that you can learn by watching. I hope you can give me some of my answers, or heck all of them if you have the time as I feel you know our Breed pretty well and would more or less by this time be an authority if by no other means than experience. Thanks for looking over my query, and hope to hear back from you soon

Lauri! Just a quick question not about Yorkies! How do you like your African Grey? I lost my Amazon and am thinking of buying a Grey. Are they very loud? By that I mean screeching a lot? My Amazon was really, really loud! Do you own a Dongo or a Temeth? Thanks! Pat

Pat, Totally no, not screechers or screamers or obnoxious noise makers at all. They have a wonderful word/song every morning that I wake up to, and enjoy while I go about getting ready for the day. Of course you probably know they are the SMARTEST of all the Parrot breed, they have the most expanded vocabulary, and they are by far and away the most loving of all the hookbills out there. I've had Sweetie since she was old enough to leave the nest and I had a wonderful breeder that I purchased her from. Her babies are very very bonded and socialized before you get to have them, no matter how long that process takes! I used to have a Blue and Gold Macaw and he was so rude!!! When I finally found him a good home many many years ago now he was their absolutely perfect bird!! I will never figure it out. He was a biter, terrorizer, mean and spiteful, aggravating pain in the a@#. It took me about 1 week to realize my mistake when I got him. He was 1800 bucks of all mean and evil feathers wrapped up in a 3 foot frame!! He had my Sweetie so intimidated that she wouldn't make a peep. This probably stunted her emotional growth some since he was such a bully. But now 7 years later she has blossomed into the most wonderful bird anyone could ever hope to flock with. She takes showers with me, perched on my shoulder. She preens my hair, which is very long (waist) and will literally do it for hours and hours if I would let her. She is caged trained where she poops before she comes out to sit somewhere on me. She is intrigued by all the other animals, cat, dogs, and of course my skingrandkids. She does NOT like strangers, and never has and never will. She is a gentle eater and will very delicately take food from my hand or my mouth into her own. She gives me (only me) lip kisses, but I draw the line at reguratation (sp) and tounging!!! LOL If you are thinking about getting an African Gray, by all means do so. They live about a hundred years plus, so you must keep this in mind when purchasing. You have to have a forever plan in place in the eventual event of you passing on. They will grieve themselves to death over the loss of their feather mate, which would be you. It's a really terrible sight to see when they go into this stage, and most never come out of it. So make sure you try and have someone else, much younger than you spend time early on with the bird so that the transition some day would be a smooth one. And of course, they should do the same. Well as usual, I wrote a book. sorry about that. But you would not be sorry 1 day to own an African Gray. I don't know where you are, but if you are within driving distance to Baton Rouge Louisiana, then I would be happy to share with you my breeder, she has a web page that you can go to, although I don't remember it anymore after all these years. I do know where she lives and know her name though so it shouldn't be a huge feat to find out her internet site. Anyway. LOL hope that helps!!!

Laura! Thank you so very much for all the information! I have been trying to connect with someone who would tell it like it is. I WANT ONE NOW! I live in Butte, Montana, so that is a ways to go, huh? There is a breeder about 130 miles from here, but I'm not sure if she does Congos. I know she had a Tehmah when I bought my Amazon. Oh Boy he was loud. A good talker, though. I went for a Grey, but he growled at me and I thought he didn't like me. I never knew at the time that they growled! Live and learn! By the way, you never answered if your Grey was a Congo or Tehmah? Thank YOu so VEry Much! Pat
