YorkieRose, you sound pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the tiny yorkies. And I would love to discuss some questions that I have further with you about them. My Yorkie, the one I am adopting is 6pounds. He is small, but not so small that I have to worry about liver shunts or multiple shunts or epilepsy, etc. I don't know all the health concerns attached to the very small ones, since things like luxating patellas and collapsed trachea come in the different sizes as far as the breed goes.
I would like to know if you breed any that have the potential for showing? Maybe not on a big scale, but say local and maybe state levels? How do you determine other than by DNA and of course knowing the parentage of the pups whether they will be show quality or not when they are just little furbabies? Is it more like an educated guess? When thinking about getting into showing maybe a couple females, is it allowed for them to be spayed? and still show in the ring? or are there rules about that? With AKC I mean.
Another question, I very very rarely see the blue yorkies. Why is that? The one I have for example I just think he is beautiful, but he is definately not a black and tan. He is blond and silver. Have you ever heard of such a color combo? Myy vet said he is just gorgeous, and I think so too. But I dont think he is actually the norm? am I correct in thinking this? Do you have a web page? Do you still breed? I assume you do from your posts, but would like to ask, and feel free to PM me if you would rather. Do you ever sell your litters with full registration? giving the guardians of your baby the breeding rights and the showing rights? It's nice to meet someone who seems to have a pretty good head on their shoulders and your advice here in the forum is usually impeccable which is why I am asking you these questions.
Another question. Do you do your own docking and dew claws? Is there any info on the internet that shows this in any detail with pictures, or shockwave video?? where you can actually see it being performed? I found a site that has shockwave video for the anal glands, since I just got a rescue in that had full anal glands, and the site it so good that it was actually not a problem at all to express them just by watching and reading the webpage. It was pretty interesting, and to tell you the truth, I had no idea about these glands before I met scooter!! His were so obvioius though and I could tell by the way he was walking semi bowlegged that he was suffering with them. So I just googled it and found this great site, not that it is a great thing to have to deal with by any means, but nice when a site is that specific that you can learn by watching.
I hope you can give me some of my answers, or heck all of them if you have the time as I feel you know our Breed pretty well and would more or less by this time be an authority if by no other means than experience. Thanks for looking over my query, and hope to hear back from you soon
