| Dumb Question about Coat Do silky yorkies have silky coats as small puppies? Will my 14 week old puppy with a cottony coat stay cottony or is there any chance that he will get more silky? Thanks! |

| I don't know the answer to the question about whether a cottony 14 wk old will get silkier; that's something I'd like to know myself. I just know that my cottony girl has gotten a LOT silkier but I think that's all just hair care products. Cream rinse and spray on leave in conditioner have done wonders! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm no expert either but I know cotton or silk - we have to just do the best in caring for their coats and a GREAT shampoo and conditioner is always important - Cotton coats require more work - but look GREAT when properly cared for. |

| Trixie has gotten a lot silkier in the last few weeks. I got her when she was 3-and-a-half months and her coats was kind of cottony, but showed signs of silkness. She is 5-and-a-half months now and it seems like everytime I bathe her it is getting smoother and silkier, especially on her head and her neck. |

| My pups coats were either cottony or silky even when they were puppies. Jewels has a slik coat you can run your fingers easily through her coat. Chachi has a cotton coat his hair matts really easily and isnt as easy to brush through.

| Gracie has a cottony coat and I recently bought the Chris Christensen products. I was amazed at how much easier it is to brush her each night now. I was brushing her every night and just doing that alone makes the job easier, but after using the products, I did not have to use the razor comb AT ALL!!!! I just comb through and she is done. What used to be a 30-45 minute job each night is now down to 3-5 minutes. Those products are worth every penny! Now brushing time is a pleasure. Wow, I sound like a commercial.

| I, too, just started using the CC products and love them. But, he's still a cottony little boy. Had I done more research before I got him, I would have looked for a silky-coated Yorkie. I have to say, though, that he is an incredible little guy and I couldn't love him any more than I do! Hopefully, I'm attaching his picture. |

| FirstYorkie, You little boy is adorable. I never heard of a cottony coat growing to be a silky coat, but i wish it can happen. I do know that cottony coats need more work. Gucci's coat is cottony and is get matted very easy. I think using a good quality grooming product is vey helpful. I don't use CC system but i heard is awesome. |

| I bought Petsilk Well, I finally broke down and bought shampoo, conditioner, finisher. Jack has cottony hair. I looked up Pet silk on the net and they don't sell it here in my town. So I ordered it. I will let you know how it does. (*I have a question, How come Petco says yorkies don't need conditioner because they have oily hair) Have you heard of that? Cheryl |

I get this question a lot....In emails and in person....lol I have several females that have the cotton texture and they have thrown cotton and silky pups... Brushing will NOT change the texture of their hair it will just keep it manage able. I have found no matter how much you brush them its NOT going to change.. Most that I have come across have silky hair on their face and cotton from neck down and down the back.. Most that I have seen have a under coat. (so to say) Brushing keep it softer. I have used a shampoo for years called Optimum Care.. Stay Strong Shampoo http://www.softsheen-carson.com/?p=185&category=26 It leaves the coat healthy and looking and feeling great and keeps body in the coat. has a great smell and the coat has a shine that is to die for. I use this on ALL my babies..It also detangels. As far as conditioner.. I have not ever had to use one since I have used this shampoo

| I guess I don't understand how to tell the difference? Pippa is 13 weeks, and kinda fluffy, but easy to comb through, her hair seems to hold a part in the back as well...is she Silky or Cottony..... and I'm not sure that it really matters to me one way or the other...
