Muzzle...

Sandy was hit a little too hard by a tall man when she was younger and is now afraid of tall men. And, sometimes, she can be reactive. So, she has a muzzle that I carry just in case. Sometimes she wears it. But, she hates it.

I'd rather her be muzzled than biting someone, though. She's only bit someone once... and it was in a way, my fault... however, I don't wanna take the risk of her biting someone again.

She's not a yorkie, though. I've never seen a yorkie in a muzzle. At the vets office once, I saw a chihuahua wearing one. I didn't think they made muzzles THAT small. That dog must've been a mere 2 lbs.

I can understand a vet muzzling a dog but there is a vet in our area that also does grooming and he actually sedates many of the dogs before they are groomed. That would really piss me off. I know a few people that used him and they were very unhappy about him giving them a sedation shot. Have any of you experienced that? I suppose with some dogs it would be necessary but I think it is wrong to do that without tell the customers first.

Yes I have heard of sedating a dog during grooming.
The groomer that I was using suggested I get a sedative for Buddy
from my vet since he bit her during a grooming. He had a reason
for doing so but I couldn't prove it and he couldn't tell me.
I would never sedate my dog. I have learned to groom him myself instead.
Whenever I touch him from behind, butt, legs, feet etc. he turns and
nuzzles my hand telling me he's not happy. I know something happened
because that's is how he did bite her when she was behind him. Whatever
happened left an impression in him. If that's the only recourse someone has than I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. No vet, groomer or anyone else has the right to sedate your dog without asking it's owner, unless it's to save his/her life. IMO.

I stopped going to one of our local vets because he routinely muzzled all the dogs that he seen. If I had a dog that I didn't trust with a vet I would not feel so bad about muzzling. However, the dogs I had at the time felt like they were being punished when they went there. They hated it. Only thing I could think of was that he was afraid of dogs. Not a good thing if you're a vet.
