Muzzle... Does anyone use one for their furbaby? I saw two Yorkies at the vet's office with a muzzles. |

I made one for Ellie but there really is no reason for her to use it. If she got hurt and I thought she was going to bite, then I might use it. Most Yorkies would never need a muzzle. :confused: Maybe they have snapped before so the vet insists on it? |

Unfortunately sometimes it is necessary to muzzle a dog. I know groomers keep them on hand in for when they get aggressive dogs. Vets also will muzzle a dog that is scared and trying to bite. I know some yorkies are terrified of strangers and will bit if a stranger tried to touch them. Maybe that was the case with the ones you saw. It amazes me how strangers will just run up to a dog and start petting it without first asking if the dog is friendly. I see parents letting their little children run right up to the faces of strange dogs and the children stick their little face right into the face of the strange dog. Very dangerous. |

The vet has to muzzle my male scottish terrior when we take him in. He tries to bite our vet. He has never liked him:( |

Buddy got muzzled last year for his yearly. When the vet looked into his mouth to see his teeth Buddy growled big time at him. Vet immediately muzzled him which made me feel better to be honest with you. Buddy was scared and it protected him and the vet. I will ask him to muzzle him again in May when he returns for this year's exam. Better safe than sorry. |

My first Yorkie (RIP) apparently was snappy with a groomer and she was red flagged too. They muzzled her for grooming and I was never told about it. I didn't appreciate it too much either. I would have liked to have been told that she was snippy and muzzled. |

I agree he did look so frightened but that's the point. When they get frightened they snap only to protect themselves. It's not their fault they feel that way so this protects them from having a bite record:p Buddy is big also at 16lbs so if he bites you know you've been bitten and I don't ever want that to happen. The vet did say "What beautiful teeth you have Buddy" before he put the muzzle on.:D |
I can understand a vet muzzling a dog but there is a vet in our area that also does grooming and he actually sedates many of the dogs before they are groomed. That would really piss me off. I know a few people that used him and they were very unhappy about him giving them a sedation shot. Have any of you experienced that? I suppose with some dogs it would be necessary but I think it is wrong to do that without tell the customers first. |
