| Introducing puppy to cat? Hi everyone, I am getting my first yorkie baby in 18 days!! YAY anyway, i have heard to introduce two dogs on neutral territory, but does anyone know how to introduce my cat to my puppy? The cat is super laid back, de-clawed on all 4 feet and i dont see a problem, buuut you never know. should i just put puppy down and let them find each other? or do a formal introduction? if anyone has gone through this or has advice i'd appreciate it!!! thanks in advance! |

| I have two VERY large cats (19lbs & 23lbs). I was so worried about how I was going to introduce my Silvia to them, especially since she was so tiny (only 8oz) when she came home. I remember laying Silvia on the floor in front of me while she was asleep, and letting the cats smell her. Well, she moved ever so slightly and within a millisecond, those cats were on their hinds popping her repeatedly with their front paws like they intended to kill an intruder! They're also declawed, so it didn't hurt Silvia, but it scared the crap out of me. I remember just crying and crying because I figured they'd never get along. Well, it took some time, but they are inseperable now and it's like they've been together forever. Oh, and another thing you can look forward to in raising a yorkie with cats is that it will introduce you to the possibility of raising a corkie! (part cat part yorkie) My two cats essentially adopted Silvia as their kitten. Silvia lays on the back of the couch with them, sleeps with them when I'm not home, and even cleans herself like them. The first time I caught her with her back leg in the air licking it clean, I thought I was going to die of laughter! She also NEVER barks, but instead kind of moans, almost like she's purring when you pet her! Poor confused little thing!

YT 1000 Club Member | Roxie came after the cats. My cats are pretty big cats too. They don't mind Roxie at all (but they hate the big dogs). One of them loves to play chase and hide and seek with her. That one is the one we should have named Garfield because that's exactly what he acts like. Roxie and him have a Garfield and Odi type of relationship. If one of the cats gets on the counter or someplace they aren't supposed to be and I say, "Kitty get down" Roxie just goes nuts. If she catches them first she tattles on them by barking and running in that direction. Bringing your Yorkie in as a puppy I think makes a difference. The pup kind of learns when it's ok to approach the cat and when it's not. Most of the time with cats they'll just jump up high or hide untill they get used to it. Good Luck!! |

| I brought a puppy into a home with 3 non-declawed adult cats about 6 months ago. One cat is cranky most of the time and doesn't want anything to do with the puppy and will sometimes growl at him but there hasn't been any real violence. The other two were fine with him although treat him like an annoying little brother. My now 9 month old dog is very quiet and rarely barks. I wonder if growing up with cats does that or if I just got a quiet dog.

| I'm convinced Patches (our 25 lb lump o cat) thinks hes a yorkie! He loves to stir the pot w the dogs and they all play along w him. He knows JUST what to do to get things going too! They all love to play chase and then Patches will get on the pool table just outta reach and tease the crap outta my poor dogs! When the cats being naughty, ie.. sharpening his claws on my oriental...my boy Duncan will bark bark bark at him so I don't even have to say a word! He does all the discipline!! Its so funny when we have visitors coz they can't believe Duncan just does it all on is own now. They are all great friends even from day one!
