Wow....I am so sorry to hear about Missy. It is always so worrying when it comes to medical issues with the furbabies. Personally, I don't think there is a hurry to spay her if her body has already gone through so much in the past few weeks. I would give her a few months to recuperate before doing the next step. If you have a strong instinct about it then hold it out. Mommy always knows the best.

You poor thing! It's okay to breakdown. You and Missy have been through so much! Hang in there sweetie. I think I would let her heal from this first and then get her spayed. Prayers and thoughts are with you!!!

So it's been 7 weeks since Missy's leg surgery. The last few days I've been noticing that I can feel the head of the screw in her leg starting to stick out. She needed follow up xrays done anyways, so I called the surgeon and had him change the appt to yesterday. It seemed to me like the screw was coming out more and more each day since Friday. So yesterday they had to sedate her for the xrays. He said that the screw needs to come out immediately, so he scheduled her to be dropped off this morning. He was going to just take care of it yesterday while she was under sedation but she started to wake up, so he couldn't. I just got home from dropping her off there to get that screw removed and I'm crying my eyes out! I've been pretty strong through all of this medical stuff, but I'm starting to break down. Now, she will have to be sedated again today. Yesterday she was a mess for the entire evening from the sedation, and today she has to do it all over again. She was shakey, tired, weak...very clingy which is totally unlike Missy (she's not very snuggly). She gets very upset about having to go to the Animal Hospital now, so that makes it even harder. It's tough to leave her behind when she's crying and shaking. I'm doing my best to stay strong, but every time she goes through something like this I'm worried that she won't make it through. She's just so small, and this is now the 4th sedation in 6 weeks time. How much more can her little body take? The vet wants me to spay her soon on top of this all. I don't think that I can do it. I think that I just need to give this poor little girl 3-4 months to just be a dog and run around playing, not constantly cooped up in her ex-pen or in my lap. She needs to be confined to her pen for 3 more weeks.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just so upset and I needed to talk. I can't wait to get the phone call to go and pick her up today. As soon as I know that she's awake, I'll be happy.
I don't envy you at all, I hope you get good news soon from the vet and both can take a break from all this.

If she isn't spayed during this procedure, I wouldn't even bother with it for another year if you have no males around, or can take turns with putting them in a crate for an hour each. I wouldn't think putting them under that often would be very good for them, but since she hasn't had any adverse reaction, she should be ok. That poor little girl. I can surely understand why your so upset. I would be too. It would tear my heart out to see one of mine scared and shaking when I left them. I think it's harder on us than them. I will pray for your girl.

Thanks you guys. I'm just sitting here waiting for them to call. There is no set time that the screw is being removed. The surgeon is just kind of squeezing her in when he can. I'm getting anxious!

She is young and strong. I'm praying for a fast and full recovery.

Big for you sweetie. You just go right ahead and have a break down here. We all understand and we are right here for you. It's a lot to have to deal with. You'll need to be positive and strong for Missy when you go pick her up, so you just take a little time for yourself right now.

If you have a feeling about spaying her so soon, then I say, listen to that. The pros and cons are so equal on when to do this, IMHO. But her life hasn't exactly been 'normal' lately. She's your baby, and you know her best. Do what you think is right for her and you.

Little Missy!

Love

I feel so sorry for both of you.
Missy has been threw so much in such a short period of time.
Please try and take one day or minute at a time. I wouldn't
worry about spaying her just yet. Use a diaper/panty if she
comes into heat. Just be extra careful around males if she has
to be near them. I understand males get what they want no matter
what the little girl has on. I am sure you will have no problem
guarding her.
I do pray she comes threw this latest surgery well and can heal
and be just a puppy for a couple of months. Cuddle and enjoy
your little one. You need time together to make up for lost time.
I will keep Missy in my thoughts and prayer's.
Stay strong honey. It will be over soon.

Hugs from us,

Hugs from us,
There is no chance that she will come into contact with a male if she has that first heat. I don't allow her around any dogs other then our pug dog and my Mom's boxer (but not direct contact because she's too big). Both are spayed females. She uses pee pads and only goes outside for walks on a short leash. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. It is really appreciated.

I still haven't heard from the surgeon and she's been there for over 4 hrs now. I wonder if she's still waiting, but I'm getting WORRIED
