Great Advice!! Like said I live with Pits and Gucci is never around them.. just because he's so fragile not because they are not nice. I am sure the guy loves his pet just as the OP loves her yorkies.

I know this is kinda sneaky, but it's the price we pay for our babies. Most House insurances will drop the owner for having a "potentially aggressive" dog. If someone moved into my neighborhood with a "potentially aggressive" dog...I would find out who their house insurance was through and ummmm....send an anonymous letter with pictures

WOW if someone ever did that to me and I would automatically ASSUME it was a neighbor if it happened.. I'd make sure that they PAID FOR IT!!! so one is to always think there are CONSEQUNCES TO EVERY ACTION...

Chow Chow's are on the list of top ten most dangerous dogs. As well as dalmatians and husky's. I believe the top three are pit bulls, rotties and german shepherd.

The only reason I don't trust pit bulls if because when and IF they decide to bite into something, their jaw is so strong and they can kill a human or animal in an instant. And it's not usually their fault. Usually it's bad ownership. I've been around many pits who are the sweetest dogs ever. But, if their instinct does happen to ever kick in, you're screwed. Where as if a yorkie or maltese or something bites me, I can pick that thing up by it's neck/harness or whatever and save myself lol.

Good Idea Mollymum! I was thinking the same thing. I have both a pitbull and yorkshire terrier. They are very good friends but I never take my eyes off of them because even though both get along and are very loving I would never want something to happen out of my eyesight because of size difference. Moose doesn't have a chance against Molly, it has nothing to do with breed!

I understand how you feel about having an aggressive dog living next door. My new next-door neighbors have two dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs. The fences in my community are not very sturdy. Their dogs push their muzzle between small cracks to bark at my dogs when they go outside to potty. I get nervous when I see their dogs' heads peeping from under the fence while barking at my dogs. My two dogs are smaller than their dogs and could easily be injured by their dogs. The owner of the next-door neighbor's dog once laughed at me for stopping my dog from running towards the fence when their dogs' head was peeping from under the fence and barking at my dogs. Their dogs could easily bite my dog if he puts his body near the dogs' head. Also, I am afraid one of the boards could get loose and their aggressive dogs are in my backyard when my dogs go potty. What they do not know was that the people that use to live in their house had a dog that got in my backyard all the time. He would dig under the fence or found loose boards to get in our backyard. Once I saw something moving in my backyard while I was eating dinner, I opened the curtains and saw the neighbor's dog running towards my kitchen window trying to attack me. I have a reason to be concern about their aggressive dogs, and I am not overreacting. I wanted to tell the owner why I did not want my dog running towards the fence. When the owner started to laugh and talk to her dogs in a baby voice, I got disgusted and went inside the house.

I agree it's how you raise a dog. Here in Omaha, we have had some really bad pit bull attacks, so now the city has inacted a law that pits can only be outside for 10 minutes, if they are in public, they must wear a muzzle, and the owner must carry a large amount of liability insurance

owned at least 6 of these "most dangerous" breeds.........and not one has ever tried to bite me or my family members when growing up. Our pits came from a vet....because they took them due to fighting, yes we did keep them on big chains but only because we had a Chow Chow that would tease them. We also had the Rottie and she was prefect, she also was abused. Our dobermans were abused, husky also abused, wolf abused (terribly).

Pits are not bad at all...did you know that in NC when they prepare them for a fight they stop feeding them? My mom works in a vet's office and they just recently took two or three pits in with torn faces, the owner stated they got their mouths caught in the fence, yeah right.

I LOVE PIT BULLS always have and always will, don't own one because my husband feels the way some of you...no matter what I tell him.

I know what you menn about bigger dogs. We dont have many neighboring dogs, but when we go on a walk I am always protective of my babies. I think I worry more about my 12 year old son rampaging through the house. We had to stop that real quick because they love to follow him and I am afraid he would step on them. He does much better and is more aware of them now.Yorkies are so small that we have to watch out for everything!

Owners of dangerous or potentially dangerous dogs, understandably, are very defensive. You know, people are always on the news crying and saying "She / He never hurt anyone before!" Normally when these dogs snap, it's usually an inocent person whose life is forever changed. For some reason a lot (not all) of people just don't get it!!!

Do you know that cute little yorkie that you own, sitting in your living room right now looking at you with that sweet adorable face could attack you, your kids,your other pets in a heartbeat??? Granted he/she couldnt kill you but could rip off a childs face and that child require several stitches and need corrective surgery. That sweet little yorkie that you have trained so well could SNAP just as easily as pit or rottie could. You just dont hear it on the news because it was a 5 pound little dog that did it and not a 100 pound pit. I have first hand seen a small child covered in stitches because of a little dog attack. You can never trust any dog, no matter how well they have been trained.
I cant blame people who own these kind of dogs for getting defensive, because they are always getting the bad rap. Not every pit bull, rottie, GD etc is going to kill someone.

I agree with you on one thing.. if they arent allowed in housing develpoments or whatever, then yeah they shouldnt be there. But I do feel its unfair to single them out... but like you said.. to each is own.

I get that they are dangerous, what you dont get as that ALL Dogs have the potential to be dangerous!! Just because a certian dog doesnt "make a list" somewhere doesnt mean they are the safest pet to own. Labs are consider one THE BEST FAMILY DOGS, but I owned one that would go into attack mode every single time someone entered my yard, but he was the most loving dog to my famiy. He apparently had issues that I couldnt correct . Dog bites happen EVERY SINGLE DAY, by different breeds of dogs.. the only one's that we hear about are the ones that are on "the list".
To the OP, you havent gotten some really good advice. It seems to me that the owner of the pit knows that he has a "dangerous" dog and has taken precautions. Just keep and eye on your babies at all times. If the dog does seem to be potentially dangerous then I would contact the appropriate authorities.

It is very simple. If it is not my own Pitbull/German Sheppard/Rottie etc, I will not trust them near my Yorkie. I will only trust the dog if I have raised the dog myself and grew up with my Yorkie. Any other people's dog, no thank you. Nothing about being judgemental but why bother taking the risk when we ourselves have small dogs?

9 out of 10 owners will say their dogs are friendly even if they are not. Not because they are lying but because they love their pet so much they are in denial, it is human nature and most of us are-big or small dog owners we tend to overlook our own pets' wrongdoings because we love them so much. It doesn't matter how friendly people say their big dogs are, I just won't take the risk because my dog's safety is my responsibility period.

Its always good to let your neighbour know you are afraid of their dog but there is no need to be mean about it. Most of these dogs owners understand how some people are afraid of their dogs anyways. We have a Rottie in the neighbourhood whom the owner do not even trust walking by children in the neighbourhood and when he sees me and my Yorkie, he charges to the point that his collar is going to break and his owner is going to fall. I usually walk back (because I do not want to run that would trigger an even bigger reaction) into the house or quickly jump in to the car and lock the door if its nearer and the Rottie will end up charging at my car and the owner can't even control that on leash-sad and scary. He didn't train him to be mean but he didn't seek trainer's help to nip his aggressive problems either.

A Pitbull/Mastiff mix who escaped the other day nearly attacked a 3lbs Yorkie who didn't even see him. His owner loves him very much but still insist that he is friendly to both people and dogs..I could see she is in denial. She knows it but didn't want to believe it. I don't think she ever trained her dogs to be mean looking at how much she loves them but these dogs are just out of control and owners didn't seek professional help and their problems are ongoing and a danger to neighbour's small dogs.

I also wanted to add we have 2 German Sheppards on the left and right. They are well-trained although not necessarily friendly to each dog that they meet and owners are very responsible and I feel blessed that they know I am afraid of them but they always take precautions to keep me and my Yorkie safe. It makes a lot of difference when the owners take responsibility and do the right thing when they own a dog that could be potentially dangerous. I feel these 2 neighbours respected other people a lot and in return, we respect them too.

I ran over to the girls, who by the way were jumping at the fence right in front of the dog's face, picked both of them up and carried them into the house.

Thank God my husband had fixed the gap in between the house and the first chain link fence post the previous weekend. What if Lola had slipped out and ran up to the dog?!?! I swear she's braver than the schnauzer! lol

I'm sorry if anyone is offended by my ranting about another breed but when it comes to my 4 lb yorkie I tend to be a little over protective. Even our medium sized schnauzer would be no match for a dog of that size and strength.

This could be tricky if something happens and he can prove it's your dogs going to the fence instigating his dog and not the other way around. I wonder if the dog is always on a leash and monitored when outside or only because the area is new to the dog and the owner wants it to know this is home now before he lets it free in the yard. Is it your yard that's fenced or his? How did his dogs react to your dogs barking at the fence?
