Same! My groomer told me Jackson was probably mixed w/ Silky. I don't think he is but I honestly wouldn't even care if he was.

I have often wondered this myself, how someone could think any dog that is 10 lbs. or less as "big"???? My Daisy is 3.5 lbs. at almost 5 months. I was actually hoping she would get a little bigger and sturdier. But I never even considered weight and size when I got her. I just love her so much "as is"!

I know! I consider my 19lb pug dog to be a small dog!

i never got criticized for milu being small. (i probably have, but i go about not paying much attention. so i probbaly just didn't notice)

i think people hear bits and pieces of info. here and there, and generalize it and apply it to any situation they want to.

yes, there are info out there about not dressing dogs up because it's bad (but that was about large dogs with undercoat) and yes, there are info. out there about unhealthy tiny yorkies. but not all tiny yorkies are unhealthy!

although it does scare me alot since people constantly say that small yorkies are unhealthy. so it makes me worry about my yorkie.

but i did my research, and milu's parents were both about 5lbs. so i hope everything is ok. but, it does make me worry when people constantly talk about how tiny yorkies are unhealthy.

anyways, i hate it when people say rude/stupid things. why they have to open their mouth and ruin someone's day, i have no idea.
I don't think that small sized Yorkies are very common where I live. Actually, I don't see many Yorkies around here at all, so I think that is why people are overly critical of Missy's size. I don't worry about her being unhealthy because she is small. She has been checked by the vet several times, and I'm told she is very healthy and completey normal, just on a smaller scale. She's proved she is strong by already undergoing a big surgery on her leg. Her Mom was 5 lbs and her Dad was 3.5 lbs. Hopefully she will still gain some weight, although she's quit growing for now. She is only just under 7 months old though. I really could care less if she ends up 3 lbs or 30, I love her just the same. For me, it's all about the cute face, size doesn't matter.

That's another thing that upsets me is when they ridicule me for putting clothes on my baby. I feel like saying, it's really none of your business!!!! I can do what I want with my baby! I don't tell you how to raise YOUR children!!!

So it's not just people with average to large size Yorkies that are criticized, I'm getting ALOT of critical remarks from people about Missy's small size. You just can't please everyone! What annoys me more is being criticized for dressing her up, doing her hair, and homecooking for her. I think that I'm just taking good care of her. All pets should be treated so well.
yep.. i have both! (Gemma is little.. Avie is on the larger side of the standard, with a TON of hair! ..& my mom's yorkie is like 10lbs!)

i have gotten both sides of this, as well! (both of the good & both of the negative/rude!) but, either way.. i could really care less! the people who say anything.. really have NO idea, at all!! (a lot of them are ignorant!!! and yes i agree, most of them are very UNEDUCATED about this.. but, so was i when i got my first baby! SO.... UNLESS they are RUDE or just plain RIDICULOUS.. i will try and sum up something to say to them(try to infrom them, as best i can, about whatever it is they were talking about!)

NOW, SOME PEOPLE.. are a BIG WASTE of BREATH.. so, i just don't say anything to them!!
the people i can't STAND are the RUDE ones!!! Now... THAT, i think is just RIDICUOUS!! so UNNECESSARY!!! ...who are THEY to say anything!?!
if you DON'T know something OR maybe you just have an IDEA.. you can ask/say something in a NICE way!! OR in a RUDE way!! ..there is a BIG difference!!
there are people like that in EVERY ASPECT of life.. which i just DON'T GET!!!!(never have!) what's the point of being a JERK.. ESPECIALLY if it isn't even any of your BUSINESS!!!

You know, that's just it. People will rarely ever tell you how to raise your children, especially when it comes to random strangers. With dogs, however, simple strangers--we're not even touching on the subject of family, friends, and relatives--will not hesitate to put in their dollar and half of unrequested input on how you're raising your healthy, happy dog. Okay, to be fair, not all strangers who have an opinion would voice it to you, they'll just keep it to a snicker as you walk by them.

I've only ever been told how small my girl is (currently 6lbs at a little over a year) when she was anywhere from 4 lbs to 5.5 lbs by those who either already own larger than standard yorkies or those who recognize the breed but do not own one themselves. From these same people, I've also gotten the question of whether or not she's a "teacup" or that "she must be a teacup", and I chuckle and say, "Far from it. What some people refer to as teacups are half her size." I also warn them of who they might choose to use that term with as some people are really sensitive about that. I personally don't mind either way as they're not trying to sell a dog, they're just using it as a means to describe the pup. Of course, I do tell them, it's not a "type" or "breed" it's simply an unfavourable word used to describe the little guys. From anyone else who complimented her on her cuteness and not so much her size, they let me know they "have one like her, but smaller" at home. Most that I've run into are either just barely smaller than her or less than half her size.

Back when she was about 4.5 lbs after her puppy class, a family had come into PetSmart to shop. They had with them a tiny version of my girl! Same colours breaking out at the time, almost like an exact scaled down replica. I thought he was the cutest thing while the woman looked like she was afraid I'd either snatch her pup or that my girl pulling on her leash to sniff him was going to eat him right up or maybe kill him with a deadly dog disease (all I did was say how perfect his features were and he looked like a miniature of my girl--I didn't even try to touch him, as I respect others' personal space, and that includes their children and pets). She didn't even smile. I didn't hold it against her, but I felt a little sorry for my girl. She had shown way less interest in her 3-3.5 lb puppy classmate. A very cute yorkie boy with the most amusing "antics".

Mine has yet to be called a "rat" or other rodent. One little girl referred to her as a "wiener dog" but when she noticed we can HEAR her (crossing the street and she was right behind us), she corrected herself immediately saying to her dad next, "aww, a cute puppy". I didn't mind that either, even if she figured mine was a doxie's first cousin. LOL

Then there's the woman at the bus stop I walked by when I chose to ignore her outstretched arms, and her "aww, what a cutie" she immediately changed her tone and inserted, "Is it a dog or a...cockroach." Her pause made me think she had to quickly wrack her brain for a good insult to sooth her hurt feelings when she didn't get to pet my girl. I mean, taking your furkids to the outside world shouldn't automatically mean they are volunteers at a free mobile petting zoo!

Anyway, size, colour, breed comments don't bother me. I find it amusing most times and typical the rest. I mean, I'm still waiting for someone to call her a "rat" though I do think she's like a little mouse and named her after as much.

What does bother me are times when I walk by GROWN MEN. This only happens with that particular species. Okay, this was another bus stop incident. A very bored late 40's looking smoker standing at the back part of the glass covered bus stop area sees us coming up the street. I can already see him eyeing my girl. He gets into position. Puffs a few more puffs of his cigarette. And as we approach and walk by with commercial buildings in the way, preventing us from avoiding the guy, he bent down near dog level, holding his cigarette off to the side (to avoid burning his clothes and/or ours, I bet, not so much to show some consideration) then proceeded to go, "Arf, arf, arf. Arf! Arf! Arf!" He KEPT doing that. LOL. And I said clearly to hubby, and hope he heard as he kept GOING even after we passed and gave him an "Are you stupid?! Wacko!" look. I said, "Why would people do that? Do they realize how dumb they come off looking??" I was proud that my girl walked RIGHT BY without once breaking pace. Little did he know, at that time, she would have responded more to, "BARK BARK BARK, BARK BARK BARK" and he'd have to do it with a deeper tone. She thinks "No bark!" = "Look! Doggy friend!" And when you do consective low pitched "Bark Bark Bark"s, she'd come up to you and give the yorkie head tilt. LOL. But we've overused that, so she has since refused to give us the satisfaction of a response.

Well, we weren't so lucky when we were crossing the road one time and there was a skateboarder crossing without getting off of it. She went hysterical on him especially when he bent down as he was boarding by going "bark bark bark! bark bark bark!" He's such a mean little delinquent. I've purchased a mini skateboard but have yet to make use of it because of the weather. I have been meaning to desensitize her from the noise it makes. So it's just sitting around for her to look at for the time being.

That has got to be the rudest comment EVER. Well, telling someone their dog is going to DIE EARLY is shockingly rude as well.

I still need to desensitize Thor to skateboards. He goes insane. I can't tell if he thinks they are food, or if he is scared, or what.

I feel really bad when he goes off on skateboarders, because he's basically screaming, "DIE! DIE! DIE!" at them. Usually they are pretty nice about it, or just laugh at him.

LOL, She's too big to be a cockroach at 11"x11" not counting head and neck and she doesn't go for garbage like a roach. I know the woman wasn't creative enough to come up with something "smart".

I think our kids think skateboarders are a roaring monster species. But that's so cute! LOL. Die, indeed, hehe. It's especially cute when it's not my girl, but unfortunately, I think she would love to join forces with your Thor to scream at skaters. You're lucky you live around better natured skaters! But I feel bad when she proves stereotypes correct when she's mouthing off at those times when normally she isn't a barker.

someone had called milu a rat before, but i am usually in my own world and not paying much attention. so i just regarded it as a compliment of some sort... it's not until i hear people complain that their baby was called a rat that i knew it was NOT some sort of strange compliment...

it really is a good thing i never pay attention to people. otherwise i would just constantly get into stupid fights with people...
