Yorkie at my backdoor
 

Tonight we heard a yorkie bark (yorkie people know what i mean) at our back door..after making sure eddie was with us we looked outside to find a little lost black/gold yorkie....it appears that she has been on her own for quite a while...nails were at least 2in long...after bathing her and trimming her nails we fed her and bed her down.....it breaks our heart to think that someone just let her go....but that what it looks like to us....if anyone would be interested in her that lives near kalamazoo, michigan. Please e-mail us...from her appearence we are not going to pursue her owners or post her whereabouts.......mike ann wolf

Poor little baby! Thank you so much for taking her in and getting her cleaned up, fed and snuggled in. It makes my heart smile that there are such great people like you on YT that will help dogs in need like this! Way to go!!!!

she is as peacefull as an april rain with eye's to match.....we just can't keep her but we will try to find a good home for her....aren't yorkie people crazy!?

I would love to take him home with me. Maybe soon, God will send me another precious angel.

I would love to take her in but you are soo far from where I am, it would be almost another world away even though we both are in the US. I sure that you will find a loving home for her. I just hate to believe that someone would do just a horrible thing.

She 's asleep now.....all curled in her bed...I will post some pic's tommorrow night...it seems to look like she has had a rough couple of days.....we don't want to stress the little girl out.....she is so quiet and peacefull .......who know's maybe she's from Yorkie Heaven and came to us so we could find her a loving home.......stay in touch...

I would take her if I could get help getting her to me. I just said something to DH.. he just looked at me and said I was on crack... but he did not say no! :D

I would suggest looking for "Lost" ads on the web for your area, and also checking to see if she's chipped. I can see how you would not want to give her back if her owners are not taking good care of her. However, it would be so wonderful if her family has been waiting for her. Also, I think there could be an issue taking her to a vet if she's been chipped with someone else's info.

Just giving my thoughts. I am sure you will do the right thing.

I so wish I could take her as I am located in Michigan, but I'm just too busy nowadays to take in another yorkie. If I didn't have so much going on, I'd take her in a heartbeat, but I just wouldn't have the time right now to work with her. I hope you guys find her an excellent home though!

I just don't know how a Yorkie would have survived outdoors during the winter in Michigan...but then again, maybe she wasn't taken care of and just happened to "get away". Can you feel whether she may have a chip or not? I would hope that she does have an owner that would be looking for her but with the economy right now, people are getting desperate.

I would do some checking for her owners - I would be concerned that she belonged to someone & got lost & ended up with someone else that didn't care for her properly. Someone could be heartbroken over her disappearance. Take her to the vet to check for microchip

Maybe you all could do a Yorkie train?? I would help but I'm in Tampa.... Maybe another time..

Maybe do a web search for yorkies lost a few months ago, or whatever your guesstimate is for how long she has been neglected. If you find a "Lost" ad from six months ago, a good owner may be looking for her. If there are no ads, or just something in the past few days, that would suggest a neglectful owner.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is wonderful that you took her in. I'm just thinking of people who are waiting right now for their yorkies to come home; it would be very sad for them if the dogs were found and then simply given to other homes.

That would work! If everything should check out that this little girl does indeed need a new home, I am open to having her join our crew. So, Wolfer pm me if you do need me. At that point we can worry about doing a Yorkie Train.

My yorkie got out for a night and day....I had just bathed her myself as I always did.....I took her for a ride and brought her home. I went back to my car after I thought I dropped her off to my husband at home and proceeded to leave.....she followed me and was lost. When I got her back at the end of the next day she looked like she was a pound puppy! The sweetest little girl/family found her and saw my flyers and brougt her home. So, I am here to tell you they can become a mess overnight...This may not be the case here, but please try to see if she has a good family that is searching for her.

Maybe you can take photos of her to document her appearance and if you do find an owner, contact animal control and report them. You mentioned her nails are really overgrown, so maybe that's some indication of how long she's been without good care.

I would take her to the vet and have her checked out , not only to see if she is microchipped, but to see the age of the yorkie, perhaps how long she may have been on her own, if she has been "starved" , matted, and these type of things. This will indicate how long she has been away , or lost.
I feel so bad for this little Yorkie. I am glad that your family took her in. If all else fails and you can't keep her, maybe she can go to a yorkie rescue? Or someone on YT can give her a new , wonderful, loving home?

what if she has just been lost for a while and thats why she looks a mess....if it was my puppy i would definitely want to know! maybe post something just to see if you get a response but be sure if anyone responds they give proof that its theirs

How wonderful of you to be a safe haven for a Yorkie out all alone!

Indeed the first impression does give the feeling that she has been neglected and abandoned. However, she may have ben staying alive by sheer determination trying to find her way back to her home.

I agree with the others who suggested a vet check for a microchip and some investigative work on lost Yorkies in the last few months. Just from reading heartbreaking stories on this board and seeing posted notices around our neighborhood, I know it could be very possible that someone's hearts are breaking as they search, hope, and pray for their Yorkie's return.

What impresses me most about this Yorkie is the determination to survive in spite of all odds. That will to live doesn't sound to me like a Yorkie that was mistreated but rather one that keeps hanging on to be able to return to its home. It must have had a good life to not give up when life became such a difficult challenge.

You provided shelter from the storm, so to speak, but I hope in the calmness you reconsider your plan to seek the history. This could very well be someone's beloved pet who needs to be reunited with its human.

If there is no microchip, I would check for inquiries that have been made to area vets, animal shelters, and pounds. This Yorkie's human family may have searched unsuccessfully but left contact info at high pet areas. I can only imagine their despair as their attempts to find their pet failed.

Finding a Yorkie a new home would be a wonderful experience, but just imagine if you could reunite a family.... very possibly a family who has given up hope. This Yorkie sure has survived the ordeal with some determination, to say the least. What if this were your Yorkie...would you not want someone to at least try to find you?

I can't help but wonder if your backyard/backdoor/back doorstep somehow resembles one in this dog's history. It is rather a miracle that you heard the bark and responded as you did. I continue to believe that things in life happen for a reason. You very well could be the one chosen to bring the family and the Yorkie back together again.

Also, you could even check at the pounds & vets offices around your area. Maybe the owners left a contact number.

It's nice that you were able to take her in & clean her up, keep her warm & feed her.
This little one could be lost for a long while. Her humans could be heart broken & sick with the fact that their baby is out there & lost.

See if by chance she answers to the name Gracie. I decided to check some online lost Yorkies in Michigan. This one was reported stolen in October 2008 in Wyoming, MI. I have no idea how close this is to you but the report says she is very friendly. I found her by doing a search on Google for lost female yorkie kalamazoo mi. This one was listed on the Dog Detective site and has a phone number but no photo.
