Puppy Scams ??? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Hi, I just wanted to pass on what I think is a gut feeling. My search for a puppy has taken me to not only my home state of MT, but also WY, CO, AZ, AND CA. I've contacted a few people from AZ that I've found in the AZ newspaper online...each one of them have also contacted me via email with puppy pictures, basic info, etc....with instructions to wire money to a place in Africa.

They then say once they recieve payment that they will next day air the puppy via a special "pet airline" to my location. My concern is that #1, nothing is ever mentioned about vaccines (especially those that would protect the puppy from out of the country illnesses such as malaria, etc), or that there is a quarantine order w/ all international animal transfers, etc. I'm almost for sure these are scams and don't want anyone else to get "roped in" and excited about these puppies. In the pictures they are beautiful puppies, reasonably (almost too reasonable!) priced, so I was almost sucked in. I'm very glad I #1 haven't been able to actually get a puppy quite yet, and #2, thought about the process (the africa thing) a little longer before just running out and wiring money to Africa. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Oh my gosh, honey NO. Don't ever wire money to Africa or any place else. That is one of the oldest scams out there. It's a long explanation as to how this works but you can google that info.

Find yourself a reputable breeder that you can visit, see the pups and the parents of the pups at the very least! Ask the breeders on here who they recommend, there are several.
Good luck finding a great lil one.

I ran into that situation, too...many times. I googled Cameroon, and the whole scam was explained. So, the next time I responded to an ad in the paper and it was a scam, I played along...telling them the dog would have to be quarantined before entering the US, that I would come get the dog, etc., they had an answer for everything, although their English leaves a lot to be desired. Finally, I just gave them the one fingered salute and never heard back from them, lol.

Yes, the Nigerian puppy scams are pretty well known.

I too ran into the same thing. All they wanted was the money to switch its papers from them to me. I knew nothing about a scam over there. They also had a heart wrenching story about how they were their sisters puppies, but she was killed in a car accident while on vacation. I thought that was pretty low making up a story like that. I guess some people will do anything for money. So good for you to have better judgement. The old saying holds true if it seems too good to be true then it probably is.

Never wire money out of the country. It is a SCAM!

My husband told me that was a big NO! So I did have luck and found a breeder who was a friend of my cousins. She lives about an hour away from me. I am getting my puppy from her on April 10. I am so excited and I can't wait. I have looked for the right puppy for a long time. I am happy that I finally found one. My cousin lives right close to her and she sends me pixs of my puppy all the time.
