| Shipping a Dog I posted but I don't see it anywhere..... We are adopting a pup, 8 mo old, from Texas (she is ADORABLE), my hubby is going to get her next Saturday (as long as we can get her on the flight). Her "mom" & I are not crazy about shipping alone because she'd go in the cargo hold. However...I'm interested in those of you who have shipped pups...how does it work & how do they handle it??? |

| i have had 2 furkids shipped to me...one was a relatively short flight and my baby was 8-9 weeks old...he did great! i took him out of his crate at the cargo area of the airport where i picked him up, and he gave me kisses and seemed so happy...no accidents in the crate either the one who had a long flight had pottied in his crate (he could not help it - he was about 4 1/2 months old)...he seemed a little scared when he came out for about 30 seconds...i got down to his level, spoke softly to him and petted him...within a minute he was trotting around like nothing happened he also did great! i have mixed feelings about shipping...i would like to personally fly in and pick my babies up or get one from a breeder within driving distance but sometimes - for lots of different reasons - it is not possible i also think it depends on weight and age of the furbaby and their personality...but i have read (and experienced) many stories where everything works out great! congrats on your new baby! cannot wait to see pictures

| Hi and welcome to YT! I had Zoe shipped. It is nerve wracking and wouldn't be my first choice however it went perfectly for us. Not a hitch and Zoe was fine when she got here! I would do it again! |

| I had Ben shipped to me as well. He flew into LaGuardia and I picked him up there. I was absoultely terrified for him! I was proabably more nervous than he was, he had to switch flights in Ohio so he was on two planes! We went to the cargo area to get him and took him out, he was alittle nervous and didnt wee in the crate at all. He rode in my lap the whole way home and was curious about everything and looking out the window. It is nerve wrecking, but I think overall it is safe.

| I have had only experienced shipping an animal two times and they both involved international flights as well as domestic flights. The first time was when I moved to Germany. Goliath did just fine and was about a 1 1/2 years old. The second was when we moved back to the US 4 years later. This experience left me in tears at customs. I'm not sure if someone gave him something, it was his age combined with that length of flight, or what but he was stumbling and couldn't stand long. I took him out of his kennel and was just in tears. The fact that I took him out got the employees very upset but I didn't care I just kept asking them what did they do to my baby. I ended up leaving all of my stuff with someone that worked for the airline and just took Goliath. I was in the full on ugly cry by this time but I was just that scared. I took him outside to get fresh air, and to the bathroom so he could drink more water since he had drank his in the kennel. I was trying everything and fortunately he came around and started behaving normally. I was very concerned though because we still had to catch our connecting domestic flight. I was a pack of nerves on the domestic flight thinking of him in the cargo hold again. Needless to say I didn't really 'greet' my family properly at KCI. I just kind of rushed through and told them I had to find Goliath and make sure he was okay. When I found him though he was fine and I was relieved. The second experience was enough to make me never want to go through this again even though I know it has to work just fine most of the time. My own personal experience has been 50% good and 50% terrifying for me personally even though he turned out fine. If I had to do it again I would want them with me in the plane and not in the cargo hold area. With a big dog there isn't that choice so I would not want to do it again with a big dog if it could be avoided... I would rather drive. That's just been my experience though. When you get scared seeing your baby like that you never want to go back to 'that place' due to the memories associated with it. I wish you luck in whatever you do and congratulations on the new furbaby. Be sure to share pictures of her when you can.

| First of all, CONGRATS! Can't wait to see pictures of her. I had my first biewer flown to me from PA, he had flown from Germany to PA and survived it. I actually think the breeder/broker in PA had given him something thought to keep him calm as he was like a zombie when he got here. I also had 2 yorkie pups(11 weeks) flown to me from Michigan, they got here safe and sound and were fine, but, just wanted out of the crate when they got here. I'm sure they're nervous and scared, and I'm sure it can get very loud up underneath, but, they usually come through with flying colors. The only thing now I worry about is like that plane that went down in the river in NY, what would have happened if there were any dogs/pups on that flight, they never would have made it out. I think if hubby can get the pup on the plane(think most airlines allow 2 or 3 in coach, then that's the best bet |

| Yes...Georgia named her & we're not going to change it. If course she'll probably get used to the additional names we call the boys...stinky butt, hot stuff, chow hound etc |
