| ![]() When we are home he is allowed to go anywhere (except our bedroom) but he ends up cuddling with us on the couch most the time... or following us into the bathroom, which, while cute, is annoying... or sitting on my feet as I cook food hoping I'll drop a bit of carrot or something. When we are at work, if it's only for a few hours and during his "nap time" then we'll put him in his crate. If it's for more than 5-6 hours I drop him off at my parents so he can play with my mom's dog. I think most people do the crate thing mostly for potty-training. We know when Kingston has to go now, so we just keep an eye on him.

| ![]() My little 3lb. Winston has free run all day every day, nor do I use crates or gates. I refuse to have him couped up, and at bedtime I have him sleeping in my arms ![]() |

| ![]() We let yogurt run free downstairs and whenever he wants to go upstairs he would sit by the stairs. We don't let him use the stairs because we are too afraid of him tumbling down the stairs. It all works out great since he likes to be carried up and down the stairs |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | ![]() We close doors of rooms we don't want them having access to (bathroom, for instance), but they pretty much get free rein 24-7 otherwise. The only exception is when one is sick; then we'll either crate or babygate them in the kitchen.

| ![]() Missy had free reign up until she broke her leg a month ago. Now she needs to be in her ex pen for 6-8 weeks to heal. I know it's a pretty young age to give them free reign, but she's never done anything wrong so I have no reason to confine her.

| ![]() Lucy pretty much has free rein (except the bedroom). If we're not in the lounge, we shut that door, but otherwise, she's queen of all she surveys.

| ![]() Squirts had the free run of the house since he was 6 months old. Gus needs to be watched all the time, & stays in a playpen when I go out. I guess it's a younger generation thing.

| ![]() magic has full run of the house at all times. he is a very good boy and since he was 6 months old he could go anywhere he wants. he is 100% housebroke and i know he would never do anything. when we go to work the thought that he would do something never enters our minds. alot of attention and training and he soon knew what he was allowed and what he wasn't allowed to do. he even goes on vacation with us and is just as good no matter if we are in hotel or someone elses home. we still are not afraid to leave him to go somewhere. ![]() |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() We usually do,but Aiden has been acting out,and knocking over our garbage cans. I have been putting them in there pens if we are all out. Sick of cleaning up his mess...I think he gets mad if we don't bring him everywhere..

| ![]() Except bedrooms, Keegan has full run of the house all of the time. Clarence gets full run when we're home but he actually likes his play area while we're gone & at night the prefers his crate. Oh yeah, he DEMANDS to go to bed a 9pm SHARP! He's my sweetie. |

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() all my dogs are crated at night and when we leave. I keep gates on my bedroom doors cause Tucker is still pottying training, but other than that they have free reign. ![]()

| ![]() Jackson only gets a certain part of the house but it's a fairly big part of the house. It's like an in-law suit. He only gets to come to the other side if I'm with him. But he's only 5 months old right now. I have left him out (i.e. not in a crate or a pen) when I've left before and he did absolutely fine. I think he just sleeps when I'm gone. Whenever I visit my dads house, he's never in a crate or a pen. We just block off the upstairs from him & their dog (who is 1 1/2 years old) because the cats litter box and food is upstairs. I just let him have free run of the downstairs since it's all hardwood and tile anyways and he's never had an accident when we leave.

| ![]() My babies have crates for bedtime and when I can't keep my eyes on them (like while cooking). Chloe is 22wks and Milo is 12wks. We just got Milo last Thursday and he goes in and out of his crate at his leisure. I keep the doors open all day, and only shut them when I leave or at bedtime. They love having a place of their own (it's like their ancient ancesters, the wolves, who lived in caves). When it starts getting late, Chloe will go to her crate and bark! It's like she is telling me...I want to go to bed!!! Chloe is almost completely housebroken, Milo has had one accident since I picked him up. He is catching on so quick! ![]() ![]()
