How old was your puppy when you brought her/him home?

I got Missy when she was 7 weeks and 3 days old. She had to be treated with Nutrical 3-4 times a day for the first couple of weeks because her blood sugar levels kept dropping, and then I gradually weaned her down for the next two weeks after that. It was scarey, and I wouldn't want to do it again!

Got my Sharky at 2months old. He was still eating soft food by syringe. He'd rather play than eat so I had to syringe him a few times a day. More vulnerable when they are younger.

More work when they are younger. My Lexie was brought home at 3 months old and she was fine. No syringing... she ate on her own and adapted well.

Diva was 7 weeks old. I wasn't ready to get her when I did and would have preferred that she stay with her mum and sibs much longer, but she's my baby. She gets potty training; now, we need to work on basic etiquette.

I do have to say that I have very little respect for any breeder that lets their puppies go before 12 weeks. They learn so much in those last couple weeks. Eating is a huge part of that. Too many people have a set age that they automatically wean their puppies and put them on food so they can get them moved out faster. When in reality, their mom has the most perfect food for them. They need to nurse for as long as possible. Shoot, I have puppies going on 10 weeks that are still nursing. They eat food too, but as long as mom is happy, then there is no reason to wean. I'll keep my babies for as long as I need to, to ensure that they have had the best start as possible.

My baby was approx 8 weeks - In the UK apparently many people think this is ok for them to be sold at this age, many of the breeders that want fast-sales (some sell at 6 weeks which I think is ridiculous). She was fully weaned and eating hard food at this age - as soon as she came home she dived into a pack of puppy biccies. She never wimpered or cried the first night - I think she was quite glad to get away from the busy household (the 'breeder' had saeveral large dogs running in the house -they knocked over the pups lots of times because I saw it happen when I was there) - she fell straight to sleep and never murmered at all. She stunk rotten though - bathtime!!! xXx

I got Chip at 7 weeks... the "breeder" (now what we know as a broker) lied to us and told us he was 8 weeks... of course, this was when we thought 8 weeks was the standard age for all dogs. Chip was very sick and had hypoglycemia and he was large for his age... he was almost 3 lbs. Now today he has an extreme attachment to us and has poor socialization skills despite all we've tried. I blame this on the fact that he was probably taken away from his mom so young and we were the first people that he realized that he could trust. Sometimes there are yorkies that are fine to go home at 10 weeks, but I wouldn't bring one home any earlier than that.

Snickers came home at 16 weeks, and Baxter at 12 weeks.

I got Madison at 5 1/2 mos. The breeder was going to keep her. I got my maltese at 16 weeks.

I got Lucy at just over 8 weeks old - which seems to be pretty much the standard here in the UK (although I admit I haven't checked the KC guidelines, and just went along with the breeder. All the breeders I had spoken to earlier had said 8 weeks, so I assumed this was right).

Lucy had no problems, and settled in with us and our elderly cat very quickly.

I got Pepper at 12 weeks and he will be 1 year old tomorrow. Wow, the time sure flies!
