| I have a new baby! I found YT as a recommendation from, of all things, a parrot forum that I'm on. I just adopted a 1.5 year old blue and gold little girl weighing 3.5lbs and cute as a button. While I know she's not of breed standard, that's ok. I just wanted a loveable little companion and WOW! did I ever get it! In the 3 days she's been home, she's worn herself out following me from room to room. I guess you could call Teiya a rescue. She's definitely a rehome and unfortunately wasn't very well taken care of. Her face is a little matted and she's terribly underweight. I'm switching her food from Pedigree to Solid Gold slowly. I figured it should take her 2 weeks until she's completely weaned. I fed my Westie (RIP) Solid Gold and I really liked the results. In the meantime, I'm supplementing her food with high starch people foods to get her weight up. I can feel her hip bones and her spine. She's scheduled for a checkup with the vet next week to get her UTD on shots and a microchip. I'm going to discuss spaying her after her weight is a little better. With her being so thin, I think it's best to wait. Though I didn't pay top dollar for her, she's already cost me more than if I would have, and that's ok! We went shopping together yesterday for "essentials". Those "essentials" are up to about $600! LOL! I'm such a sucker. They're having a pet fashion show here in March and I'm debating entering her. I'd just have to figure out what she needs to wear. Teiya's a princess. She demands to sleep on something soft, LOVES attention and under no circumstances will she tolerate getting her feet dirty. It's making potty training with all this snow interesting but we're getting there. She doesn't know how to play. All she wants to do is cuddle. I'm not sure she ever had a toy before and perhaps I've overwhelmed her with all that I bought her yesterday. She'd never had a greenie or a gourmet doggie treat either. She had no idea what to do with either. It's really sad that such a pretty little girl was deprived of these things. I hope, in time, I can show her a good life. So far, the cutest moment was yesterday when she was standing on the corner of my bed, growling at one of my macaws. After about 5 minutes, he started laughing at her, so she decided to growl at the other one. My macaw let out a scream and she came flying up to the top of the bed and snuggled in my arms as if to say "Help me momma! She's gonna eat me!" I sure hope she gets used to the parrots. I have 8 of them in this house right now! 3 aren't mine, I work with avian rescue as the Intake Director. But it does get kinda noisy around here! |

| Welcome, and congrats on your new baby. She will be one lucky dog and still so young, plenty of time for her to enjoy a good life. I have owned parrots and now have a cockatiel. Maybe I can pm you for some hints on how Yorkies and birds can co-habitate. My female Yorkie lies in wait under Buddy's cage, jumps up in the air to try to grab him and I've rescued him from her on more than one occasion. I miss letting him out.

| drabinowitz43: I wish I had some hints to give you. A cockatiel is going to be tough since it'll kick in her prey drive pretty hard. I have 2 blue & gold macaws, 2 congo african greys, 3 amazons and a Severe macaw. These birds are all pretty big, so she doesn't seem to mess with them much. And they can fly! Something about a 34" bird waddling around on the floor seems intimidating to such a petite little girl, though I still have to be cautious when the birds are out and supervise all activity. If I go to the bathroom, Teiya has to go with me. Pictures? Oh do I ever have pictures!! LOL This is Teiya http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...X/P1010428.jpg And here's the results of our shopping spree! http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...X/P1010444.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...X/P1010443.jpg We gotta model our new jackets! http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...X/P1010424.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...X/P1010436.jpg And tonight, we're already dressed in pj's (both of us!) http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...X/P1010445.jpg |

| Believe it or not, I got the pj's at Petco! I wandered in there yesterday and they were having a sale on clothes. Buy 1, get 2 free! That should explain the massive pile. I think I came home with 16 coats, dresses, sweaters and pj's! LOL No. I don't spoiled my dog. Why do you ask? |

| Hello and Welcome to YT. She is adorable and well on her way to a wonderful life with you. They are the most wonderful and loving companions and yes litte diva's; but we don't mind. I have 3 that are in my home. My girl and 2 of the 4 babies she had. Of course they are now 7 months old already. I kept one of the boys and my 24 year old daughter kept a little girl. I wouldn't have changed a thing! I love them all dearly!!! I wish you lots of luck, fun, love and laughter...... Susan and Maverick
