Default I have a new baby!

I found YT as a recommendation from, of all things, a parrot forum that I'm on.

I just adopted a 1.5 year old blue and gold little girl weighing 3.5lbs and cute as a button. While I know she's not of breed standard, that's ok. I just wanted a loveable little companion and WOW! did I ever get it! In the 3 days she's been home, she's worn herself out following me from room to room.

I guess you could call Teiya a rescue. She's definitely a rehome and unfortunately wasn't very well taken care of. Her face is a little matted and she's terribly underweight. I'm switching her food from Pedigree to Solid Gold slowly. I figured it should take her 2 weeks until she's completely weaned. I fed my Westie (RIP) Solid Gold and I really liked the results. In the meantime, I'm supplementing her food with high starch people foods to get her weight up. I can feel her hip bones and her spine.

She's scheduled for a checkup with the vet next week to get her UTD on shots and a microchip. I'm going to discuss spaying her after her weight is a little better. With her being so thin, I think it's best to wait.

Though I didn't pay top dollar for her, she's already cost me more than if I would have, and that's ok! We went shopping together yesterday for "essentials". Those "essentials" are up to about $600! LOL! I'm such a sucker. They're having a pet fashion show here in March and I'm debating entering her. I'd just have to figure out what she needs to wear.

Teiya's a princess. She demands to sleep on something soft, LOVES attention and under no circumstances will she tolerate getting her feet dirty. It's making potty training with all this snow interesting but we're getting there. She doesn't know how to play. All she wants to do is cuddle. I'm not sure she ever had a toy before and perhaps I've overwhelmed her with all that I bought her yesterday. She'd never had a greenie or a gourmet doggie treat either. She had no idea what to do with either. It's really sad that such a pretty little girl was deprived of these things. I hope, in time, I can show her a good life.

So far, the cutest moment was yesterday when she was standing on the corner of my bed, growling at one of my macaws. After about 5 minutes, he started laughing at her, so she decided to growl at the other one. My macaw let out a scream and she came flying up to the top of the bed and snuggled in my arms as if to say "Help me momma! She's gonna eat me!" I sure hope she gets used to the parrots. I have 8 of them in this house right now! 3 aren't mine, I work with avian rescue as the Intake Director. But it does get kinda noisy around here!
