| Getting A Playmate? I've searched for this thread with no luck. If it's here perhaps someone can re-direct me. With that said my wife and I are considering a second Yorkie. Our current little friend is 2 yrs. old and we both think she is in need of a playmate. Can anyone share some do's and dont's while we make our decision. I'm sure than many of the members here have taken the plunge. Thanks for your insight in advance! |

| Welcome to YT. There are a lot of posts on this subject. Finding them is a challenge. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...2-yorkies.html I have 2 males, & they get along very well, but the older one prefers to sleep & not play with the younger one. A male will, in general, get along better with a female than another female. This is not absolute. The temperament of the individual dogs is important. Similar size/weight is good, but not essential. Neutering both should help. How you introduce them is important. Yorkies love Yorkies

| I only have one, but I think the questions you need to ask are is your current do g well socialized with other dogs, are they well balanced, and are you ready for an additional pet remember now it is twice the responsibility twice and twice the cost. If you can answer yes to everything than I would think go for it. Bring your current dog with you while looking for a new pup it is just as important that they like the new addition it is a good idea to always introduce outside of the home so no one feels invaded. Now is a great time to look for a resuce, unfortunatly there are plenty of dogs in shelters and on petfinders from the christmas puppies that did not work out. Good luck |

| I think that's a great idea! Any dog always loves to have a playmate. I'm no expert on this, but have you checked Petfinder? That's where I got my yorkie (he's a yorkie-poodle mix) and he's just wonderful. Keep us posted!

| My DH are wondering the same thing because we would like a little girl playmate for Laddy but also kind of wanted to know the best age to adopt another. I think we are going to try to adopt a rescue baby this time around. |

| I am also seriously considering getting a playmate for Cash. I read up about it a while ago and they say that when your existing dog is well-behaved enough to be a good role model, it is the right time to get another one. Cash is also two years old and the breeder that I really want to get a puppy from just told me that one of her dams is having pups THIS weekend. So, on Monday, I will find out if she has a girl and if she does, I will take the plunge. It is a really difficult decision, but I think that since a dog is a social pack animal, they shouldn't be alone. They need a constant playmate. I think two years is a good time since they are still quite young, but they are good role models. Good luck with your decision!!
