| Is this true? Ok so i took Canella to a new groomer today and they are highly recommended by people here in Austin...well everything was good and i was telling the groomer i wanted to keep canella's hair long on her head and she told me she'll do whatever i want but with "little ones" like her the top knot is not such a good idea because eventually over time she will get a scar on the top of her head? that just broke my heart i want her to have the long beautiful hair with the top knot but i dont want it to hurt her or give her a scar she is 2.6 lbs at 1 yr old and usually i just put an elastic band in her hair to keep it out of her face i dont use heavy extravagant bows or anything just a little elastic band?...so someone please let me know from your experience...im sorry its so long i had to explain the story |

| I have never heard about it leaving a scar. I have a friend/mentor who is a hollistic groomer and she doesn't do top knots either. She said when she was a vet tech she saw too many problems with dogs that had them. They pull the skin and can actually cause problems with the eyes because they are pulled so tight you are pulling up on the eye lids and such. Seems like there was more to what she told me about that, but I don't remember it all. I keep Wookie in a puppy cut, mostly because he is a boy and I didn't want him having bows in his hair! lol

| To solve that problem all you have to do is use a rat tail comb and once the band is on the hair tight use the long end of the comb without teeth and put it in back of the hair to puff it out to ease the tightness. Hope I explained so you understand. Most groomers to that, it is nothing new. I always did my own grooming and never had a problem with a 14 yr. old but I must say there were times I would just like it fall and she enjoyed it and yet I worried about hair getting in her eyes and irritation. When you walk them outside and since there little face is so close to the ground, that would be a good time to take the top knot out and let the hair act to protect their eyes but then put it back on again. I'm sure there are different points of view on this but this is what worked for me.

My furkids Donating Member | I have 2 girls...I keep bows in their hair everyday. I have never had a problem....After I put the bow in I pull it up a bit so it loosens the hair and doesn't pull the eyes. Mine aren't tight at all.

| Lady has worn a topknot 24/7 every day of her life since I adopted her at age four. She's now thirteen and has had no problems or scar. As the other said, just make sure you loosen the topknot. |

| Funny i used to do that with my 2 daughters hair when they were little. You don't want it to be too tight and pull. so just loosen it a bit. It takes the edge off if you know what I mean.
