We're on day five with the 5 year-old yorkie we adopted from a rescue organization.
He's bonding with me very well, but then I'm the one that's with him 90% of the time.
This morning when my brother picked him up to say hello (I live with my brother), he actually growled and made a little nipping motion towards my brother's face.
I'm hoping this is just because the entire situation is relatively new to him (the yorkie). He's lived in a kennel most of his adult life, and I don't think he's used to a lot of different people around, and handling him.
Any input or suggestions?

Hey there...
We just recently got a yorkie from a puppymill, where she was used maily for breeding. We've had her a little bit over a month and we went through the same stuff as you have and are going through, but Trixie never *snapped* like that. I woudl say its very normal for him to do this, considering his past. These babies were not and still is not used to the attention, love, and so forth we are giving to them now so that's why they are in fear of *change*. I will say that after a month, Trixie is more than coming out of her shell--shes eating, sleeping, playing and having her personality come out more and more each day! She is still a bit skiddish of *any* strangers-especially men.. so thats gonna be an issue for a while. I would suggest just keep introducing her and socializing her as that's the best way to get him *use* to the new life he is gonna have now!

You can have your brother try to bribe him with treats or food.

Next time you feed him or when it's time for a treat, let your brother give him the food. Since he may not be completely used to his new living situation, just give him some time. Let your brother interact with him more, with playing, petting, and feeding him.

Welcome to YT. My only advise is to have patience and give your furbaby (what is his name?) time to learn to trust and bond with everybody.

Positive reinforcement, slow actions and involvement with all family members is probably the key.

Your brother can help out in so many ways to help bonding, maybe a little each day.

Your Yorkie probably has never known how it feels to be safe, secure and loved unconditionally so he is overwhelmed. I bet in time he will come around and be the happiest, kindness Yorkie ever. He just needs extra hugs and kisses.

try and get your brother to feed your furbaby so he gets used to the both of you also his never been loved before and it must feel rather strange to keep getting cuddles and kisses, he will soon get used to it and come to love you both sooooooooooooooo much.

just to congrat you on your baby girl, thank god shes no longer at a puppy mill being breed i wish those kind of people would just f### off for ever.
your baby is a lucky one she now lives with you and is loved very very much

From experience , I have 2 rescued yorkies girls . The little one need time to adjust to his new place . As you said , he is bonding with you after 5 days , this is very good . The situation about your brother will change as soon as your little one will gain confidence but first he have to adjust to his new home

I'd definetly give it more time, and have your brother spend more time with him. Remember he's in a totally new place, with totally new people who treat him in a way he's never been treated before. Be patient it will be well worth your time and effort.
