| How do I go about letting Keely have full run of the house while I'm gone? I dont like that keely is stuck in her kennel when im gone. I sorta cant wrap my head around her staying home outside of her kennel. But i really want to be able to just leave her home without using the crate. What would she do? How do i keep myself sane? .. what did you do? Any advice is welcomed! She did have full run of the house once for 3 hours (My brothers fault) And all she did was tear up a tissue. | I don't really have an answer for you. I would love it if someday, Lexi could have full run of the house - when we are home, first, and then, when we are away. What I might do is start with one room. Go for a short period of time, and see how it goes. Extend the time you are gone gradually. If that goes well, add a 2nd room, starting with a short time, and gradually increasing it. Continue until she is able to be in the house for the period of time you are usually gone. Good luck, and let us know if you find something that works for you! |

| we just started letting ours have full run of the house during the day and night. prior to this we had him in a pet yard containment pen during the day. we started out by leaving him for short periods of time and just kept increasing it. we also made sure he was pretty much housebroken first. |

| How old is she? Is she potty trained? Mine got free run when they were 1.5 yrs old ~ That's when *they* were trustable. Walmart.com carries a white plastic play yard which can be used to *block* off areas to contain her with more freedom than her crate, or you can connect the whole xpen together (6 panels) and keep her in there! P.S. If you buy it and do the 'site to store' shipping is free. |

| I would take it slow with transitioning her to have full reign of the house. Izzy only gets part of my apartment when i'm home.. block off all bedrooms. She's in her crate if we are gone longer than 30 mins to 1 hour, otherwise she's in the same space as when we are home. we'd love to let her have free reign when we are home, but she potties in the bedrooms if we dont watch her. We've let her have reign and we've cleaned the carpets plenty of times due to that. shes 3 years old but weve had her since may. don't know if it'll help, but she needs to learn that you are the boss and you decide when she gets to go all over. i've learned that a crate is a safe place for dogs and they actually like it... ha!!! good luck!!!

| When I leave the house, I let my two run free in my bedroom. I don't trust them leaving them to run free in the entire house because there are just too many temptations (trash cans) and what ifs. The bedroom works really well for me because it's big enough for them to have lots of room to play, and they have the whole bed to sleep on.

8 months may be a tad young. Mine did regress along there various stages of growing up, and it wasn't until 1.5 yrs that they passed 'our' tests to be allowed the freedom Maybe get the xpen and start slow, contain her to one or two rooms, etc... | |

| Boy, do I wish I had an answer for this question. I would loove to be able to let Turk have the freedom, but I still can't trust him enough. We have done absolutely everything we can to puppy proof the kitchen, yet he always manages to find a way to get into trouble. lol Best of luck! Lest us know how this works for the both of you. |

| Lily is 9 months old and she has had full run of the house since October when we moved to a different house. I was busy moving and had to leave her and she did fine so it kinda just went from there and she is great!! She is pee pad trained and she goes on her pads and she has never torn up anything or done anything so far?? I think she sleeps mostly. She is better to leave her in the house than to try to confine her. She always did hate the crate and she climbed out of the expen real soon!! I give up and let her go and she does fine. She is only 3lb. 18 ozs. and she was born March 12th. 2008. She used to get car sick and scream in her crate in the car and now she flies on airplanes and goes for hours in the car in her crate and doesn't make a sound!! I think all dogs are different and just have their own ways. |

| Bailee has the entire run of my apartment(except the spare bedroom and bathroom) while im home...but then again its only 1100 square feet lol....I would love for her to have more freedom but its just too scary thinking about what she could get into!! Id be a nervous wreck worrying when I left her!For example, last nite I went to the movies and had my mom had just had a confrontation with my neighbors below me(apparently my 3 pound dog makes too much noise) anyway i was terrified the whole time they were gonna come up here and hurt her!I dont think I could stand the anxiety of it lol

| I'm not sure why you want your yorkie to have run of the house. I understand not being kenneled all day, but I think part of securing these little furbabies is also for their own protection. Mine are in my large kitchen when I am gone - they are secured with a baby gate. I know many other people use an x-pen to block off a certain space. I should say my 2 are 7 yrs old - not babies My little Roxy loves to perch on the living room coach where she can see what is going on in the neighborhood & often barks excitedly at things she sees -- I would hate if in her excitement she fell off the coach & got her, especially in my absence - other yorkies have been seriously hurt this way. There are just too many what if scenarios if they are left with too much space in my opinion. What if they ate or choked on something you would have never dreamed they would eat. Or chewed on a cord, or tripped on a cord, pulling something big down on them. Most people - even those with puppy-cams say their dogs sleep all day while they are gone - so they only need so much space. I'm sorry if I have upset anyone - but I believe my job is also to protect my furbabies when I am gone
