| Difference in Boys & Girls? HI - I am new here and wish to say Hi to everyone. We're doing some research on Yorkies and have a question -- are there basic differences in boy and girl Yorkies? Character traits that are specific to either one? Thanks in advance for your expert help. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Someone will come along and dispute me....but my boys have always been the snugglers and cuddlers. Ramsey is much too independent for that stuff. Yes, she will kiss us and wants to be with us...but not on your lap she doesn't.

| My boys are also snugglers & cuddlers. My female is the oldest and largest - very independent and bossy

| boys are generally more cuddly & lovey! mama's boys! he absolutely LOVES sleeping under my feet at my computer desk. his head is resting on my foot as we speak. i find them more cuddly. whereas females seem to be more independent, and they'll snuggle for a bit... but get tired of it quick and get up and move away, lol. they're more... well, bitchy, lol and stubborn. they're both great though, honestly. it's hard to choose. i'm just speaking in general. i've had female dogs all my life (not yorkies though) and they all had that more independent personality. jackson is my first male dog and is such a snuggler. my aunt has 2 male dogs too and they're the same way.

| Britney (a girl, obviously) is definitely the Yorkie who spends the much time with me. Rarely is she not in my lap. She could be an exception though. Brooklyn (a boy) is definitely the most loyal though. He snuggles some but only in deep sleep.

| Well Twinkle is my first ever yorkie but she seems to follow the trend that others have described - she's happy to lay next to me on the sofa but isn't interested in being on my lap.....she's affectionate but not really a cuddlebug. when I picked her I didnt know whether she was a boy or a girl, I just fell for her bold bolshy personality! Welcome to YT and good luck with your new pup - whether you pick a girl or a boy xxx xxx

| WOW! This makes me even more excited. I am getting my 2nd yorkie in 4 weeks and it's a little boy. His name is going to be "Big Papi." He is by far NOT BIG, but my hubby wanted to name him after a baseball player for the Red Sox. If Papi is more loveable than my little LuLu, I will be doing absolutely nothing but snuggling with my babies. Wherever I am, LuLu is.

| Wow Wow- I am so surprised - but this is exactly what a breeder said - that boys are more snuggly, more lap dogs. This is the opposite of what you would expect - but just shows we shouldn't put our human perceptions on dogs. Just cause girls may be more snuggly doesn't mean girl DOGS are. |

| I have been told by another Yorkie owner that girl pups favor the males in the family and the boy pups favor the females in the family. Daisy Mae is definitely a Daddy's Girl, but I am the one that keeps her calm and she responds to me better. Although, I am with her all day where my hubby is not and she goes crazy when he gets home from work. But, then I don't blame her, My hubby has the same effect on me!

| I have to agree with the other. My boys are definitely more loving. My females all vary in personality. Some are total lap dogs while others are very busy all the time running around, looking out the window, barking and getting into things. The downside to a male is that some of them have a tendency to 'mark' if they are not properly potty trained. When you have intact males around females that are in heat the males can be a real pain and they just have one thing on their mind. They bark, whine and pace. Intact females are moody and have personality changes right before and during their heat cycle and for up to two months following. Which ever sex you decide to choose I would ask about the personalities of the parents because I find that the pups often grow up with similar traits. Of course, if the parents have different personalities you won't know until the dog is older who he will take after. I have one female that is very active, she is 5 years old. She gets terrified of thunderstorms and her pups all seem to inherit her traits, very active and scared of thunderstorms. Best of luck to you! |

| I love the boys the best, because they are a lot more loving. My guys even know when somethings wrong, and they won't leave my side. I've had girls before and there more into their own thing. I'm not saying they won't show you love, but it's more at their time not always at yours.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's breeder said that she's found that boys are usually the snugglers, and it's true in Joey case. Girls are just moodier!
