Bella is pretty small at 4 lbs., and she started jogged with me when she was probably closer to 3. I haven't jogged in awhile outside since it's gotten colder and I'm a "fair weather" girl all the way!! But she does really well with it and seems to really, really enjoy it! I have always walked her in the heel position since that is what I was taught to do in Puppy kindergarten--I keep her on my left with her toosh even with my left foot. This is so much safer to me, even when just walking, because if she is way out on the end of a long leash, anything could happen before I had the chance to grab her up.....other dogs, cars, bikes, anything!! I too was worried that she wouldn't be able to keep up and had thought of buying one of those jogger-strollers they sell for pups, but I decided to just give it a try one day and see if she could and how long she'd last. I'm not a runner by any stretch, but she outlasted me, that's for sure!! Since we don't have a fence around our yard (we rent), she only gets to be outside on a leash, so jogging with me was super fun for her!! The only difference for me is that I keep my eye on her the whole time just in case she makes any sudden direction changes--even though she runs beside me, I want to be extra careful because I definitely don't want to squish her!! I give her a chance to rest too every once in awhile to feel out how she's doing, but she's always been raring to keep on going......I did that just in case pups have to work their way up in duration of exercise like people too, which makes only sense to me.
Good luck and have fun!! I'm sure your baby will have a blast!
