Do you jog with your yorkie? I always wondered if Deegan would be able to keep up if I took him jogging with me? Does anyone out there jog with their yorkie, and if so - do you jog continuously or do you do intervals? How long do they hang in there for? Also - does anyone let their yorkie run along side a bike? I have a trailer that attaches to my bike, but Deegan will only sit in it quietly after he's tired... Usually I have to take him for a long walk to get him to sit quietly, but by that time I'm tired and don't want to go biking. So I thought about letting him run next to the bike for a bit to tire him out, but have been too afraid of trying it for fear he might get hurt... |
WOW!! A Yorkie jogger. I can't even get Gus to walk :) |
I jog with keely everyday. I ussually jog the whole time and if i stop she keeps dragging me until i joog again. BUt if ive already played soccer with her or soemthing she ussually dont want to jog the whole time. The bike thing is dangerous. I ride bike with my neighbors german shepherd, and even that can be dangerous. I have her fully trained to stay beside the bike so i cannot ram her with the tire, But a squrrel caught her one day and i almost broke her back paw with my front tire. A yorkie can easily be ran over by a bike. |
I have read that you shouldnt go on your bike with any dog.(unless they are travelling in the basket on the front...lol) If you are cycling and they need to stop for any reason..to catch their breath or if they are struggling to keep up, they wont be able to. Better to teach them to run after a ball, and bring it back to you. Thats what i do with molly, and she will happily do that for half an hour or more, which gives her planty of excercise, and then we have a sedate walk home, and we are both ready for a nap!! :) |

I ride with one of my dogs beside me all the time and it's perfectly safe if your dog is trained. You have to use a proper bike attachment like the 'walky dog'. You should NEVER try and ride a bike with your dog hooked on a leash. With the Walky Dog the dog cannot reach your tire and the spring on it keeps them from yanking you down. But my dog Forrest is a large dog and I wouldn't recommend trying to ride with a small dog. I don't think he would be tall enough. But I bet your baby would love to jog with you. And as far as how long he can go it really depends on him. Just keep a close eye on him and see what works for him :) He'll probably suprise you! |
My Bella jogs with my father everytime I come home from college. I would love to do it too...but I just can't keep up with her :dogwalk:. lol |
This gives me hope. I'm a runner and was hoping when Missy grows up she might be able to run with me. I use to ride my bike with my lab, until she got spooked one day and ran into my front tire taking us both out. I never did it again after that. |
