Pee Pads in the house Hello, I am interested in getting a little yorkie. Its fairly chilly right now... so Im considering training her to go on Pee pads in the house, silly question for those whos yorkies go on pee pads, does it make the house smell?? I live in a condo, so I dont have a back mud room or anything like that to put the piddle pads in, I was just going to put in the kitchen area that has no carpet! How often do you change them? Another silly question... what do you do with them once changed... My garbage area is down at the other side of the building so I could take it down there once a day. Thanks for the help!! |

Hi, I know all about the chilly weather too, I'm way up in northern BC. I decided to train Bea to pads due to the cold and I take her to work with me and it was more convienient that way. I just have the pad at home by the front door and the one at work at the back of the store. I tend to change the pads daily so her feet don't get dirty, just throw the pads out with the garbage. I flush the poo down the toilet. As long as you change the pads regularly they don't seem to smell. I think they put something in them to stop odors. Also I keep the pads on hard floor, it helped when she was a puppy so she didn't confuse carpet with the pad. Can't wait till spring when she goes outside again! |

My puppy is only inside for now till the weather gets better. He is doing really well on the pee pads and the others learn from him... :) |
mine goes excellent on the pee pads,it doesnt smell but everytime she goes poo i pick it up with the tissue paper and flush it |
1 Attachment(s) I have a super sensitive nose and can smell a wet pee pad. Lady also won't use the same pad twice so I change them every time she goes. I use washable pads now, but when I was using disposables, I got a Diaper Genie to hold the pads so they wouldn't smell. I got this cute cover on Ebay. |

My husband has a very sensitive nose and can smell it, even though the pee pads are in our mud room. Is there something you can recommend to mask the odor? I do use Febreeze spray and plug-ins. Maybe using a specific scent? Pam |

I use potty pads with Harley and I can't smell them at all. Now that he doesn't go so often (he is 7.5 months) I put down a fresh pad every morning. When he was younger, I would usually change it twice a day. I too flush any poop and just take the pad out to the trash with the normal household trash. I have been looking into washable pads, but have only seen the ones they sell at PetSmart in person and those seem awful rough to me! Jeri and Harley:aimeeyork |
