I didn't even search for that topic . . I wanted to see how they were born. I searched yorkie giving birth on YouTube and that was the first video I clicked. I never even knew that I was going to see the babies getting tails docked and claws snipped. If you say that "Several of them didn't even wake up when they had it done", that's fine. Reading that makes me feel better. I am a new member here and saw this topic after I had just watched the video, so I thought I would share it with the people on this site. It made me feel bad to see it. You don't have to roll your eyes.. The sad thing is . . . many breeders are CRUEL and ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEYYYYYYYYY!!! So they will do whatever they have to to make it. I was just stating an opinion and showing true facts to be nice, and someone has to get all defensive, why? Oh, because deep down someone already feel bad(or doesn't have a heart) about what they do and I have just justified it for them!!! Anyone that could do that for money is sick in the head!!! Who ever in USA says this is the standard is an idiot! Give me a rebuttal better than that!!!!!

Furthermore, what gives breeders the authority to cut little yorkie's tails off??? No wonder why a lot of Europeans don't like Americans, lol. Last edited by heatherlee143; 11-25-2008 at 11:03 AM.

The same thing that gives breeders the right to s/n their dogs, or decide when they are bred and when they are not... The same thing that give us the right to do anything else related to our animals. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 11-25-2008 at 11:13 AM.

That's like saying anyone who believes in circumcision or earrings for kids is heartless for subjecting their child to a painful procedure. The truth of it is, whether you believe in docking or not, it's not something a puppy is going to "remember" any more than you would remember if you were burnt with a cigarette as an infant. My dog certainly doesn't seem to care that he doesn't have a tail. Last edited by Bhikku; 11-25-2008 at 11:14 AM.

First off I would just like to state that whatever I say is my opinion, not meant to be offfensive/judgemental/inflammitory, just my own feeling on the matter. Let me explain myself when I say it is a mutilation. All those things you said, about missing fingers/limbs/neutering are either necessary or unavoidable, whereas a docking is not. It is an operation performed on purpose and as someone else befoer this has already said Yorkies no longer work in the way they were bred for so what is the point? It is purely tradition and a personal preference. Er-go a mutilation. To me. I have no desire or wish whatsoever to discuss this further as I feel it may be dangerous ground, and teh last thing I want is an argument, what with so many strong opinions and feelings, so that is all I will say. I just wanted to have my point of view noted and was only answering a question. Jess

Thor's Human Donating Member | Not trying to be inflammatory (really) - but we can't know whether the puppy remembers it or not. After all, they can't tell us. Dogs have a different biology than we do. A dog who loses his hind legs will adjust to it and not act like he "cares" about missing those limbs. I am against the practice, not the breeders. |

| Tails, docked, I believe, is typically done when A person is going to show the pure bred Yorkie . Other then that, I really love my Suzi with her tail intact. They are not big anyhow, and I think she looks beautiful.

| For the record, I prefer a docked tail. It's one less thing I have to step on with a tiny dog underfoot. |

No arguments wanted. We are all entitled to our opinions and they aren't always the same.

| I know this is a controversal topic but i hope we can keep it civil.. I remember a thread a while back about yorkie ear piercing, everyone on here was disgusted by it...one poster said that she was sure that 'if her yorkie could talk she would say she would prefer not to have her ears pierced'...wouldn't a yorkie if it could talk say that it would prefer to keep its tail it was born with? I have seen more than one video where the puppies are obviously squealing in pain when it is done...I have also seen evidence of puppies dying from botched tail dockings.. very sad.

| In my opinion, the Brits are right on this one. Docking is unnecessary. Edie came to me with a docked tail, but if I had the choice, she would have kept her tail. BTW, I saw my first yorkie with a full tail in person this weekend. It was beautiful!! I think in time that docking will be banned in the U.S. It's just a matter of time. I started a similar thread about 3 years ago when I first joined YT. I was ATTACKED by most members who were pro-docking. I was the only one who thought it was unnecessary and perhaps should be prohibited. Interesting how thoughts have changed in such a short time. |
